Mothballs repelling serpents?
There's no truth at all to this;
It's only indirectly
That there might be benefits.

If true of mice and vermin,
That mothballs keep at bay;
Then snakes would never venture,
Where they couldn't find their prey.

I'm not sure what's so bad about a snake to you people. Snakes are a very important part of our eco-system and will run at the mere sound of a human being approaching.

Also, you're FAR more likely of dying to a spider, dog, car, donkey or lung cancer than a snake. So why aren't you setting out donkey traps or sending all that money you spend on moth balls to the American Cancer Society?

After just a few minutes of research, it seems that only seven people have died in the state of Tennessee in the past 40 years due to a snake bite. Six of those seven people died before the year 1969 when anti-venom was introduced to the human species.

Yeah, I say start slinging moth balls all over every godamn thing. Hurry up before they start invading!!!

The mothballs keep vermin away so the snakes don't come near your home looking for food. I have nothing against snakes, but I have a 2 yr. old girl and I don't want her to bitten while playing. But, snakes are not a real problem where I live right now.

Correct, donkeys typically step on you and are far more likely to kill you than a snake. <-- fact.

Did you read in today's news about a couple and their daughter, were forced to move out of they new home and file bankruptcy?

Seems the home they purchased was having snakes inside the house all the time, in the tubs, in the trash, in all the rooms.

The house had been built over a snake den cave that has full of snakes.

Now THAT is stuff a scarey movie is made from.

Gd has two Ds, btw.
I'm compelled to agree with you though, as I have thought the same as you regarding all these proclamations of imminent danger.
We must act now or all we know is at peril of being lost or destroyed.
We must slaughter any and all snakes w come in contact with, especially those which we are certain are not poisonous. If we give the non-poisonous ones a break it will only cause the poisonous ones to misinterpret our kindness for weakness and move in on us, hellbent for our demise. If we give them enough reason to be bold then all the mothballs in China won't save the day.
What was that noise??!

I agree. I also found a timber rattle snake in my back yard a couple of summers ago. The year before that, I found a baby timber rattle snake in my carport. At that time, I lived close to a creek. I am scared silly of snakes.

Thanks and I'm aware GD has two D's. However, topix doesn't flag "godamn" as it does the correct spelling. Hence, I spell it "godamn" here on topix.

There are also King Cobras here too. My son brought one hone last year and I about died.
What he brought was most likely what is called a hognose, they do the hood thing as well to make people think they're dangerous as well as hissing, and even playing dead. They're extremely reluctant to bite, but have been known to get threatened enough to do a closed mouth strike, much like a headbutt. Biting is their last defense and is harmless anyway, their main food supply is toad frogs.(Not that you care lol) Anyway, have a nice day.

My friend was downstairs in my basement the other day helping work on my truck.He called me on my cell phone to inform me that the neighbors dog had wandered in the drive-in door which he leaves open as he works.He stated that he'd been taking a few wires off the old truck and laying them in the floor.
He looked around and saw the dog had picked up a black wire and was shaking it real hard.As he looked closer, he realized that the black wire was actually a big 'ol long Black snake that had slithered into the basement and was over near where he was working.
He said that he he picked it up with a stick because it was nearly mauled to death by the dog, and took it outside.I told him that he probably would have flipped out if he'd been working down in the engine compartment and one of those wires started moving around!!

I come here from Mexico last year. You people are worried about a silly snakes. In Mexico the babies roll in the dirt and play with all the snakes. But if the Chupacabra ever comes this way then you will know true fear. It killed my Aunt Felipe two years ago! She was carrying flour from town to her home late at night and it left nothing but bones.
Snakes are nothing to worry about maricons.
