Just a heads up so people will know.A cheap 40 dollar pre-employment drug screen isnt that accurate-heres what can happen to an innocent person.Nyquil can make you test positive for Methadone,Visine will test positive for Marijuana, and Amoxicillin will test positive for Cocaine. These medications and other substances can appear in a urine drug screen as an illicit narcotic.Always be sure to tell the person giving you the test everything you have taken-who would think Nyquil or eye drops could cause this but its true, just ask your pharmacy.

I have spent days doing research on how medications can appear to be something on a drug screen that isn't what was prescribed. Can you PLEASE HELP and tell me how you located the above information.
Thanks!

You can take a hair from your head and get a more accurate reading on what drugs are in your system.

I believe the hair follicle test can give info on several months...is that right?
THAT'S the test most druggies must fear the most.
Anyone whose ever been a user of anything illegal knows that for most pre-emplyment screens the test is only going to be urine and all they need do is abstain from their DOC for 4 or 5 days (excluding weed of course) and they can pass it.

Unfortunately for everyone except the dopers, the Hair Test is prohibitively expensive and not used often.

The so-called Drug Free Workplace Program would have a much more sucess if there was a way to make the 'Hair Test' more feasible for the Companies and Organizations to use frequently in all drug screening they wish to do.

We can hope though, that soon the Hair Test will be the standard method used for most testing...unless an even more effective method is not discovered.

this is so true, there are some cough syrups that contain the same ingredients as some opiats, such as hydrocodone, methadone, tylenol with codeine.theres more ,just to name a few. and yes there are inoscent people whom have bad luck, and fale a urine test when they havent the slightest idea that over the counter medicines are what caused the false urine test. heres another I work in a well known doctors office in this community, if your urine has a shady color cloudy for an example, the doctor will recommend further testing, a cloudy urine will raise the bar, but one can get around that and say you have had a bladder infection.. good luck and if your clean stay clean but if your not this dont mean you are a drug abuser just because a person takes a pill everyone calls them a druggy not so true,,,,,,,we all have thing in our lives different than others......L.R.G.

about 2 years ago my brother-in-law passed out & we had 2 rush him 2 the ER. well when we got there of course they gave him a drug test 1st thing & when the results came back it said he tested positive for PCP. At 1st we was very upset with him & even threatened to cut all money ties with him UNTIL we foud out that MOST cough meds will make u test positive for PCP if u take enough of it. Yes he did take more than he should have but he was REALLY sick & that was the only thing helping him. so be careful of what u take u never know anymore.

Hair testing is cheaper than urine testing and can go back 3 or 4 months with drugs that only take 2 or 3 days to get out of your system.

There are five main ways of drug testing an individual: urine, blood, hair, saliva, and sweat. Testing the individual’s urine is the most common method. It is less expensive and intrusive than taking blood. Below is information regarding each of these methods.

Drug Testing: Urine

* It is the least expensive method ranging from $7-$50 for a home test.
* It can be done at an individual’s home (parents testing children). However, lab verification is needed for accurate results.
* This method can usually detect drug use within the past week.
* This method can give inaccurate results if the individual abstains for a period of time before the test.
* Often times the samples are temperature tested to insure the sample’s integrity.

Drug Testing: Saliva

* It is somewhat more expensive than urine testing ($15-$75).
* It is considered one of the most unobtrusive methods of testing.
* This method is easy to administer but does require a lab to process the results.
* It can detect drug use primarily within the last few days.
* This method is more reliable for the detection of meth and opiates but is considered less reliable for detecting marijuana.

Drug Testing: Hair

* As of today, this method is much more expensive than urine tests ($100-$150).
* All things considered, it is thought to be an unobtrusive method of testing.
* This method has the ability to detect drug use over a longer period of time.
* This method does not usually detect drug use within the past week.
* This method requires a sample of hair about the diameter of a pencil and 1.5 inches long. This testing method can not be done with a single hair.
* This method often tests positive more often than the urine method.
* This particular method can even tell when a person started using and if and when they stopped using.

Hair drug testing can provide a much longer window of detection, which is useful for highly safety-critical positions where there is zero tolerance of drug usage.[19] Even if the person being tested has a shaved head (perhaps in preparation for the test), hair can also be taken from almost any other area of the body. This includes facial hair, the underarms, arms, and legs.
It costs less than urine testing, and one must have a lab for results. Hair testing is becoming more reliable as technology advances, and there is no known way to adulterate a hair specimen in order to falsify the results of the test, despite what some retailers advertise.

If it is less expensive Stray, why do the drs continue to use the urine sample? Also, every site I checked said the cheapest, most effective screen was the urine sample, what's up with that?
