I like to eat out on weekends and I like to try new places or even old places that are new to me. I wanted to share them with you and maybe get some input from you as to your favorite resturant in East Tennessee or within a short drive from Morristown. Also if you're eaten somewhere that the food or service or resturant appearance was substandard, I'd like that information also. I would rather go to a resturant that is recommended than to try one and pay a high price and go away disappointed.
Recently I tried the Firehouse sub for the first time and it was awesome. I went to the one on Broadway in Knoxville. It usually takes several minutes but they bring it to your table and its worth the wait. They make the buns there and they are perfect and the sandwich is served warm so you feel like you're getting a nice hot meal. I got the hero which has lots of turkey, ham, and roast beef on it. You can load it up with toppings and they have at least 20 bottles of sauce of your choice. Price was $9.16
I've also tried a few places in Gatlinburg that I wanted to comment on.
Best Italian Resturant has awesome lasagna. I've eaten there once. I highly recommend it if you like italian. Price around $15
Calhouns on the Parkway is awesome. One of the best juicy steaks I've ever eaten, served with delicious mashed potatoes with those little specks of peeling left in them, and you get two sides so with the mashed potatoes I thought I'd try the corn pudding. It was absolutely delicious. I hope to eat at Calhouns again and try something else on the menu. Price for two steak dinners and a drink were around $41.
My experience at Outback Steakhouse on Broadway in Knoxville was not a good one. I had sirloin steak, well done, baked potato and onion soup. The price isn't bad but my steak was rather dry. The potato was not done and tasted like it was totally microwaved. The onion soup was very good and I'm gonna try to make that at home sometime. I've found the recipe online. I won't have to go to Outback to get it. lol. Maybe some of their other food is better so if you have had a good experience there I'd like for you to share it with me. Total price around $18.
Well, I have other entries to add but I will stop here and hope to get many responses to this thread.

You should take your restaurant reviews to the Knoxville topix. I'm SURE they would/could appreciate it.

Your steak was dry because you had it cooked to much. A steak should never be cooked more the medium, but medium rare is perfect! You might as well eat the sole off your shoe as to eat a steak well done.

Well lots of people travel around to find good places to eat and I'm one of them. I go to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Knoxville on occassion and I'd like to know where to eat when I travel. Nothing wrong with sharing that with others in and around Morristown. Thanks for your advice but I'm staying.

Well I disagree because the steak I ate at Calhouns was well done and it was delicious and juicy. Go figure. It takes a pro to cook a perfect steak at any degree of doneness.

I agree, I ate at Outback at Strawplains Pike and my food was less than great. It was ok, and again the onion soup was the best part of it, well that and I got a free apple dessert thing which was totally awesome. But for the cost, i expected better. While this may not appeal to a lot of people, Shoney's has a steak night, usually friday nights and for it to be part of the bar, I have to say the steaks are really, really good. They are juicy, and even though they are on the bar, they are not "cooked" too much. Narita's in Jeff City is good if you like Japanese food. I would like to see a good steak house come back to morristown. I am not a fan of O'Charley's or Applebees. Although Applebees has a crispy orange chicken bowl that is awesome, but sometimes has a little too much spice in it. But still good.

Outback, Red Lobster, O'Charley's, Applebee's, and most of those chains are pretty bad. I've eaten at 3 different Calhoun's and they're all great. Another one to avoid is Puelo's. Bad menu, bad service, just bad food in general.

I've been to the Puleo's at the 398 several times in the past couple years, and the food has always been great. A lot better than all the fried crap that you typically find around here.

I've been to the Puleos at the 398 exit several times in the past couple years, and the food has always been great - better than most of the greasy fried places around here.

Try Bullfish Grill in Sevierville. They have amazing French Onion soup, the best chicken florentine I have ever had and the portion is huge, the mashed potatoes are to die for also. They can be a little pricey but it is worth it.

Also, Carinos in Sevierville is the best Italian food around, in my opinion.

Around for Mexican I prefer El Parisio in Jeff City. And Akita in Morristown has Narita beat hands down.

All of these places have great food, great prices and even better service.

I've eaten at Gondelier Italian resturant in Jefferson City several times. I love the stromboli and the calzones. They are delicious and I usually get one or the other but I should really try some other things on the menu. They all sound good. Reasonably priced.
Thursday evening I was in Gatlinburg and decided to try the Hard Rock Cafe. I had heard it was good. I had a craving for a hamburger and I was hoping they would serve up a good one. The volume of the noise from the music is unreal. Very loud, you can't hear the person across from the table talking. I asked to be moved and after two attempts to escape the noise was finally escorted to the back where it was tolerable. The burgers were ok, the fries were ok but the tea wasn't so good. I thought it was pricey at $18 for a burger and fries and tea. I won't go back there. My ears are still ringing.

I've been hearing for a long time how great that amish cooking is at Farmer's Daughter. Some day I'm gonna get up there and try it.
Hmmm the conflicting reports of Puleos has my curiosity up. I might have to try it just to give my take on it.
Bullfish Grill, Carinos, Akitas? I'll find my way there too eventually.
Has anyone eaten at the Java Garden on the corner of Main St. and Henry here in Morristown? They seem to get lots of lunch time customers. Are they reasonably priced and whats some good menu choices to try?

I have to agree....Best Italian restaurant in Gatlinburg is very good...their garlic rolls are amazing. I would also recommend Long Horns Outlaw rib eye is awesome. Marlins and Rays on Level rd knoxville is very good as well. Locally I enjoy Java Garden for lunch and for diner if I have to choose one I would have to go with Applebees although not crazy about any of our local chain restaurants. Their service and quality are lacking to say the least. Even Applebee's doesn't seem to be as good as it use to be sadly. Not like we have a lot to choose from. For subs...Firehouse is by far the best!!

I'm jotting down all these places you guys recommend. When I'm in or near one of these places I will stop in and eat. I might even make a special trip. There is not too many choices here in Morristown. I'd drive an hour for a great meal. Yes I would. Its great to go online and check out their menu and prices and then put that address in the GPS and go. I love the age of technology that we are living in. My sense of direction is not the greatest especially if there are detours around road work so my gps gives me confidence to go places and then tell it to get me back home. lol

My family and I ate at Carver's Apple House Restaurant in Cosby yesterday, and we thought it was very good and reasonably priced. We'd never heard of it, but one of the "locals" recommended it.

I checked Trip Advisor (one of my favorite sites) and saw that it had 4 1/2 stars after 79 reviews. That's not bad.
