Is it re-opened now? I wasn't talking about Cobain, I was wondering about the actual owner of the building.

The whole building is owned by Kirk Fenner. Awesomely nice guy! He's a good friend of my dad. He bought it several years ago, and has since been restoring & remodeling all 4 floors. He's also got a really old house he's restoring and not to mention owns an electrical contracting business. When he opened up the restaurant a couple years ago, he really didn't have the time to oversee everything and was relying on a few people to run it, and it didn't work out. The actual restaurant floor (2nd) is beautiful! I'm sure it will be open again, he just has a lot going on right now. Glad for him we have LBTD now, he may want to do it sooner...

Aahhh, I don't know...I know he's from Florida originally. He doesn't really strike me as a former soldier, but you never know, he is or was fairly athletic. I believe he used to be a pretty good football player, whether it was high school or college, I'm not sure. He's a real easygoing guy, doesn't bother anybody, a live and let live person. I hope he gets Higher Grounds back up and running.

It is a beautiful place!

I do know that it is open or opening, I think it's Friday and Saturday nights. Here's the website.

Well the place was open for two years and didn't make it. The last time I went in there I was the only customer in the building. It's been closed for 4 years, the economy is bad and he's opening it back up in the winter? What a lum.

Didn't make it??? You do know they didn't go out of business but had their licensed revoked right?? They soled booze under the table and were caught. I hope it opens back up.

He still has a beer license. He was cited at a private party he had there, when cups were sold and he had free drinks, some of which contained liquor. What you guys don't know is that from the time he bought the building and started renovating it, the city rode his a** about everything from downtown building codes to his beer license. They knew he was planning on having nightlife at the building and because their pockets were not lined from the deal, they made it as hard as possible on him. Not everyday things, but the nitpickiest you could imagine. This was not the current administration, but the previous. Sami Barile has nothing against LBTD, she and her husband go to the Country Club, and partake with their dinner. Kirk will finish everything and open back up the way he wants, and I think he'll do great. Morristown needs more choices.

You can't still have a beer license, it has to be turned in within 30 days when you close. If he has beer now he has re-applied for a new license. I'll agree it's not a good time to open, but good luck to him anyway.

I for one will go and check it out. Depending on the food and how it tastes... will continue to go there. I wanted to go when it was open. But was always busy. I went to the link someone posted. Looked at the pics of the place. Really nice job he has done with the place. I like it anyway. So i would personally support him opening back up. And the city can get off his a**. Morristown/Hamblen needs all the asstiance it can get.
