two colors

Morristown, TN

#21 Aug 12, 2010
I went there and one girl was working on one side of my hair and another girl was doing the other side. I was getting low lights. When I left there I had one color on one side and another color on the other side. I was so upset and cried I will never go to a school again. If you want to keep your hair ,stay away from any school.

Well Abbi, I was referring to Kim Brewer she was the daytime Instructor. She really wanted us to succeed and I really am grateful for what she did for me. I learned alot from her and she was really great at color! But I also had Nancy Broach who was the night time Instructor at the time Nancy and Kim worked together on wed. while Paula was off and when they worked together things were wonderful! They worked well with all of us and never put us down we always got the encouragement we needed.

You can go to www.tennesseeinstituteofcosmetology.net and click on the student information tab. There is an application that you can download. It has all the information about the cost and various fees. Hope this helps.

Its a hands on learning experience, When you come into a school, you should know that its students working on you, Most mistakes can be corrected, an hair does grow back! you shouldnt get on here an put down the students, they are trying their best an discouragement does not help!!! Keep in mind every student must do their FIRST color, cut , or perm on a client at some point, you take the risk of being that client! you dont do one hair cut or set of foils an become really good at it the first time,((Mistakes do happen every once in a while, but it is good for the student to learn what they did wrong an most of all how to fix the problem)) Paula will not put a student on the floor or give them appointments they are not ready to do! an she does a really good job keeping her customers happy,In my opinion sometimes she is a little too nice! As for the education you recieve, you get out of it what you put in it, you have to wanna learn, its a hands on experience, but yes i do think it does have room to improve, considering the school has only been open for 4 yrs ... over all im happy w/ it! Its hard to get experience an learn if you dont have any clients to work on. so i would encourage everyone to try it out, an get your own opinion of the school, but keep in mind at the same time it is STUDENTS working on you! Thank you to all the people who do try it out, because once again .... if you have no one to practice on ..... how are you going to learn???

The prices are cheap but it is students performing the services, and its a hit or miss whether or not you get a true stylist or someone thats just going to school there because they want a "fast" easy. As far the the education, definatly get out of it what you put in it. They dont stress the theory as much as they should. But as an adult you should take it upon yourself to be responsible enough to stay determined and learn what you have to for state board. As for Paula, she never, in the 9 months I went to that school taught me one thing. My classroom teacher taught me everything. I actually did a haircut one time, and when Paula came to "check it" she cut another inch off the girls hair, she was horrified. Everyone will get a different experience bc students are gradating and entering the school as a new student all the time, its up to u to take that chance.

I would advise anyone who is thinking about attending this school to think twice. I am over half way done and I don't know anything. I will not be able to find a job after I graduate. The owner runs the school like it is a salon, and all the students are to her is free labor. Classroom time does not matter to them, we would be in the middle of class and be pulled out to preform a service. By state law we are required to receive 4 hours of class time a week, we went a month without having class. During a bad snow storm we had to come to school and as the storm progressed to get worse and we weren't allowed to leave because, "people weren't going to not get their hair done because it was snowing." think twice before you waste $5,000 like I did.

I graduated from this school within the last year. I know for a fact that just about everything you have written isn't true. First off there hasn't been a snow storm this winter. Secondly, the class work is very important to the school because if you don't know the book work, you won't be able to pass your state boards!! Thirdly, if you're only half way through school you pretty much don't know anything...it takes 1500 hrs for a reason maybe you need to pay attention and stop playing around or better yet why don't you stop bashing a school you probably haven't ever went to!!!! I personally received a wonderful education from TIC and I am greatful for everything that I was taught!!

I went there back in Feb. to get a manicure and the girl that did my nails had 3 months left. After being there for 3 hours for a manicure, my 5 yr old daughter could have done better than that girl...she couldn't even keep the color on my nails.

I would not attend this school there is a instructor who thinks she is above everyone and is nice to the girls she likes and rude to the others. It is the owner. The owner is sweet. I paid signed up and was ready to attend. I went in just to touch base and check in because I was so excited to be starting in less than three weeks. However, when I went in the owner was out for personal reason do to the illness of her bother. She left the manager/instructor in charge. She was so rude to me that it took all my happiness out from under me to the point that I had my money refunded to me because I had paid it in full with my own money which I had charge to my debit/credit card but since I did not trust the manager and her behavior was like a catty teenage girl along with all the drama toward me not to mention the place was full of other students and clients. She had no self respect for herself or the owner to the point she went over to a student and carried her behavior even worse by saying things to the girl about me but I called her out. I had a choice to attend Hamblen School of Beauty and it is almost 2000.00 cheaper. The only reason I didn't chose TIC was because the owner was so sweet and we could wear black and not white as HSOB is required to wear. I never did go back to see the owner to tell her of the issue because She already had enough stress with dealing with her bother being very ill. I do want to mention that the older woman that answer the phone is a doll to she even said sorry and wished Id stayed and come back when the owner was back also she called me later from her home and explained she felt the manager had acted poorly and out of line. It really was a shame I want to go so bad there because of the owner being so kind. Its a shame a manager would get off at ripping almost 5000.00 right out of the owners hands after it was all set for me to go. Heck at that rate the manager will have the owners business closed down if she is out of the school for to many times. The owner is working so hard to get the acceditdation so that ones that need Financial Aid will be able to attend also. She needs to get rid of the manager. I have saved so many students from attending her by telling them to choose another school. I know of four who change their minds and went to Hamblen because I told them about my issue so thats like 20,000.00 the owner lost because of the manager....... I hope you will reconsider a try another school... Hamblen you can attend for 2900.00 that includes everything and your kit. Remember you will be standing next to students from all different school taking the same exam wether you pay 18,000.00 at Paul Mitchell School in Knoxville or if you attend Hamblen for 2900.00 you decide and save yourself from being degraded by a instructor who don't care for anyone but herself!
If it was the short lady with brown hair? She was one of the instructors and she isn't there anymore thank God! Spread the word!!
