Now all of a sudden these company people are being very "anal" about all sorts of things. These supervisors are getting out of hand. That is why we have a Union. All of this small stuff is bullshit.
Does anyone agree with me?

Never worked there, never will. But, the best thing you can do is take whatever contract they offer you. Lear WILL close that facility if the union tries to dig its heels in.

Unions had a place in the 30's and 40's, but, they are simply bankrupting American business today. I personally have witnessed 3 things with unions that made me sick:

1) employee REFUSING to make more parts (company was behind schedule) because his "union contract" says he only has to produce X number per day
2) a manager get threatened with a union grievance for trying to help another man carry a heavy item. The employee said the manager was "taking a union job" from another worker.
3) a non-union engineer threatened with a grievance and made to apologize for CHANGING A LIGHT BULB in his office. Electrical union member went crazy!

Go ask the following companies how the union worked out for them:
GM
Chrysler
American Enka
Tower Automotive
Etc,etc

I hate people who run their mouth about things they have no first hand experiance with. Just follow what the news tells you and discuss it with the other sheep.

I doubt that any of that would or will happen at Lear. After what the union gave up to keep the plant open in the last contract, it is time for them to get it back. Buisness has picked up at Lear and the people want what they work years to get back. I have worked in other auto parts plants and it was their way or find another job. I like having a little control over my work enviroment.

Talk bad about unions all you want....but if not for the UAW, lear would have a bunch of temps in there doing our jobs. Just like they lowered the starting wages and top out for new hires. There is no way I can verify this but I was told that they are still charging customers $17+ for labor, which would mean they are making money off of us in labor and sales........again this is just a rumor....but it wouldn't at all surprise me if they could get away with it.

The Union at Lear consists of hard working people. The folks that have put in all of their lives working there. They just want back what was taken from them. EARNED IT! Nuff said. Until you have worked in a Union shop, don't diss it.

Lear can close this plant and send it Mexico if they want people who cant keep the presses running. They would be out of buisness in no time.

I among others have gone to our Union about it...So freaking what?...Why do you care what I "whine" about. You are probably a slave to your job...IF you even have one. Probably flipping burgers. Predictable. Unless you have something of relevance to say
you STFU too!

Good post. I say all NON-UNION people just need to keep quiet. They are just jealous. Jealous they have a crap job, and hate it.

slave to my job? not hardly, layoffs don't happen at my new job, data processing for the gov doesn't lay off, i worked at lear from '88 up until the union talked all the other newbies into voting for a contract that had a phrase stating "the company has a right to outsource work", the union said it was the best they could do and maybe next time we would get a better contract, after all but around 100 were laid off, the next contract got us a pay cut! i went back in jan 2010, worked a month and quit, you're not telling me anything new about lear, hell when i went back they had gotten rid of all the good supervisors and kept the clueless ones! isn't sowhead in maintenance now? isn't he the one who shut down all the crap in the front office causing the payroll mess during shutdown? rick lawson still messing things up? has vicki retired yet? didn't al trent leave for somewhere else? i was a member of the union until i got laid off in jan 08, the only people i ever saw the union protect were people like todd parker, he was arrested for drugs and drug paraphernalia during lunch, missed 3 1/2 days of work and still didn't lose his job! how many times did they get rid of that guy police suspect of having something to do with mickey's murder and have the union bring him back, just to lay out? the list goes on and on. how many said to hell with lear after 15+ years? flipping burgers? not even close, i sit in an air conditioned office, do my 8-5, go home not worrying about a phone call laying me off, i have 19 yrs of retirement coming from them that doesn't amount to crap, so is that revelant enough for you?

he pretty much summed up the relavance of the union by saying "I among others have gone to our Union about it" apparently the union hasn't or will not do anything about it. which kills any valid argument he has about the union. like i said, i was there from '88 till '08, i have experience with the uaw.
