Why is hillcrest church allowed to be so involved with hillcrest school which is just across the street? This is a public school yet the school often passes out brochures about religious events held by the church to the children to bring home. They have prayer at every open house and most pto meetings by the hillcrest church. The church often advertises often to children specifically with fun fair type events and even has the school pass out brochures about the fun fair type religious events. My child is ahead of their class and attends hillcrect school. sice the last heavily advertised fun fair event towards the children of hillcrest. it has been a battle at home. resulting in poor performace at school. I have every right to say no if i dont want my child involved in church. Its a public school i shouldnt have to deal with this. It feels like this should be unlawful. its causing a decline in my childs school work. the teacher said this has just started in the last 2 weeks since the last event held by the church and the battle at home cused by the church and their shady tactics. I feel with as much as the school is involved with the church across the road and the shady tactics used to advetise specificall to the children of hillcrest that im obligated to let my child go. this is wrong, so today i whent and ask the preacher about this and he became upset. telling me that is exactly what they are out to do and that they could advertise any way they want to on their property. when i told him i had contacted someone and they had agreed to investigate the matter he basically squard off with me speaking over me in a very rude matter and walked off. i didnt even get to ask him why they wouldnt allow my wife to go to sunday school with my child. they told my wife she needed to go to the adult class, and that parents are not allowed in the kids class. my wife left right after sunday school upset. all that advertiment just to get my child alone in the long run. I say this is unlawful. how do you feel?

both of my children attend Hillcrest and this is a very big problem for me as well. Every year we go through this. I hope something is done. I have often wondered if most of what go's on between the church and school is even legal.

Help, Why do you not want you children to be involved in church? P.S. United States laws are based on religion so is it really unlawful? You are right, you do have the right to not have you kids invovled in church. However, others have the right to learn and it might be a great opportunity for them. Please keep an open mind and think of others.

all u have to do is say no if u give any response at all, just be glad sum1 gives a dam about ur kids n u enuff to invite u to something u obviously need to consider. it is not illegal to pass out brochures and adults should go to adult classes not the childrens. hillcrest is a baptist church not a catholic so getting ur child "alone" was not the mission. if ur wife feels the need to learn about and color pictures of jonah and the whale she should join the church n become a sunday school teacher to see what happens in the kids classes.

Friend, I think you are a nut. Sounds like your family doesn't like being told no and not getting your way. I seriously doubt anything from the church or school has caused your child's decline....but bet you are a major problem your child has!

YES!!! THANK YOU!!! this is a huge problem at this school! The church and the way they advertise through out the whole school is wrong and clearly in violation of the separation of church and state. I hope people lose their jobs over this. lucky for me my son only has 1 more year their!!!

to whom ever "YES" is. i feel the same way. I had 2 other parents with me when i asked the preacher about it. the parents are both members of the church and was blown away by the way he reacted. I was able to record the whole thing by audio and play it back for others outside the church wondering what was going on. Not 1 person had a bad thing to say about what we had done and all agreed this has gone to FAR for to LONG!

Call the ACLU, they love to get into fights like this.
They will end up suing the school and church to collect their attorney fees.
The church will not have to money to hand out anythng to the kids because they will be busy paying the ACLU's legal fees.
just wondering

I think it is really important to get your children in church at an early age however, it is the parents right to choose the church. I have found that a lot of churches in the area are trying to attract children with "fun days" and candy days. Is this the reason they should go to church...NO...But to have it pushed in your childs face at school is just wrong.

If your child wants to be involved with church no matter how it's advertised you should let them go. That is what's wrong with the world today parents keeping there children from church. Now for them not letting the wife go in with there child to Sunday School I don't see anything wrong with her wanting to go in depending on the age of the child. They should let the parent go if they really want to. I think they should allow church back in schools and let the kids decide if that's a class they want to take make it an option for them to decide. If they don't want to take it fine but if they do they should have that option. You should let your child go to church if they want even if you don't like going to church.
