how does a church have that much $$ anyways.. what are they doing saving it? my church keeps a little for a raining day or 2..but they have a set limit for the rainy day fund.. if they save more than that.. they give it to SOMEONE WHO needs it.. More than a church bank account..how many homeless hungry people could that 125k fed? or how ever much more they have.. Theres no reason for a church to have that much money anyways.. they are suspose to be a non profit group.. they pay no taxs..

My child goes to the wee school there at first baptist and I have to say they have a great program but thus right here absolutely blows my mind to think that lady could do such a thing. I see she is out on bond probably from using the money she embezzeled from the church..... It's completely sad to me people can stoop so slow for money..... GREED is all it is!

132 checks from Feb.24 to Mar. 29 is not taking it out slowing. I am curious what she was doing with all this money.

Well she wasn't arrested for working overtime. Stop using the Bible to validate someones bad decisions. This is not a good context example. If you don't understand then I will be more than happy to explain.

More proof that the Obama government is controlling the minds of church affairs and there money. She wouldn't have done this if the Obama administration hadn't meddled in her job.

This church is just more proof that a Church does not equal a house of god. This church is nothing but big business who dosen't have to pay taxes. We need to do away with the mega churches, all they do is constantly build so they can squeeze money out of the community and keep the overhead. I rather the money be put back into the community rather than have them build bigger structures to symbolize there power. Personally think that there needs to be an exception to the tax exempt status of all churches. Why shouldn't a church that takes in more than 100,000 a month not be taxed? Who makes sure that all church donations go to charity?

I feel bad for the woman...I think she might have been trying to help her son....not that it makes it right by no means. We go to extremes for our kids...and in their times of struggle we will do anything for them. I think the money was too easy for her to get and it was so tempting to help her son. I believe he had a stroke some time ago. Why would a church that had so much money put it in the hands of one woman anyway. That was the first mistake. There shouldve been people checking behind her so that more eyes were on the money. And I agree with the previous post...help people in need dont keep building...that church is big enough anyway! So many churches worry about their building funds and their bank account and forget about the true meaning of love one another. Jesus would want the church to help others. What this woman did was wrong and she will have to pay for it. Its very sad for her. But I think that church needs to reevaluate itself!

I have often heard people from everywhere talk about the kind of money a church takes in. I am not a member of First Baptist, but I was years ago and there are some good people who go there.

If a church has a lot of people going there or who have gone there, they are going to take in a lot of money because most of these people tithe (whether they attend regularly or not)....thus there is always money coming to the church.

The same is true with the mega churches who are on TV. These churches reach out to people all over the country ...the whole world...so they are going to have money pouring in from everywhere.

I believe if I give money to a certain church and I give that money with a 'right' heart...meaning I want that money to go to the church who will be distributing it as they do...my job is giving it. Of course, I want to look at who they say they are giving it to and be sure whoever is supposed to get it is a worthwhile group, bu if something is amiss with that particular church, there will be a time when that something is found out, just like in this case.(and the church was not at fault....just one of its parishioners, which is bad enough)

Christians need to realize non-Believers are ALWAYS watching us and they are ready to pounce when we mess up. When Christians are rude to other people and the enemy shows up and behaves in a decent manner, non-Believers are naturally going to be beguiled.

It's critical that Christians behave appropriately and represent Jesus the way He deserves to be represented. In the meantime, I'm going to pray for this woman in hopes that she will get herself back in good standing with God.

Thank goodness His mercy is new everyday...ours often takes a while!

She did not steal because she was a Christian (she has not been convicted yet so I don't know if she did it or not.) You have simply taken this opportunity to be critical of Christians. Why didn't you use her as a negative example of:

1. People named Barbara
2. People named Witt
3. Women
4. Baptists
5. People living in Hamblen County
6. People named Barbara in Hamblen County
7. People named Witt in Hamblen County
8. Humans
9. People who are alive

Do you see the point? Your comment about her being a Christian was irrelevant, just as irrelevant as these examples.
hope not

With this much money involved...I don't think she was working alone!! Just very sad...I luv this church and there are alot of great people in it! She knew better. This money was for the new children's building and a new place for the poor and homeless to get emergency help and medical care.

If you rob a gas station with a gun and get $100 you get 5 years in the Pen.
If you 'embezzle' from a business and take $100,000 you get probation...or at worst less than a year in jail.
