I'm just stunned at how many properties sit empty due to action by Morristown's city council. This eyesore lot is now one on that list.

The building in downdown that one group was trying to turn into a paintball place was shut down by the city council and sits an empty eyesore to this day.

I heard the owner of the Bradley Hardware building downtown is so mad at the city council, that he's decided to let it sit and rot as a downtown eyesore right across from the city building.

How many more of our empty properties sit there due to a city council that apparently doesn't want jobs and an expanding tax base in Morristown?

I agree..there's Nothing wrong with retail work. But no one wants to sit at home and smell garbage from a grocery store.

And every one wonders why we have to drive to Knoxville for a good place to eat or shop. It is the same old mentality, not in my back yard. They city motto is "a city always expanding". it should be changed, "lets go backwards"
how can drive to Knoxville to eat or shop even be equivocated with a Bojangles. Not like that is fine dining. Just saying.

Never said it was fine dining, but with everything that made the news over a small development, why would any type of good sit down chain even consider Morristown after seeing the planning commission and city council train wreck. It is much easier for them to do business elsewhere and not have their name dragged through the mud by "retirees" who don't need a new restaurant.

No, what we need is a city council with a BACKBONE who will stand up to the 8 people opposed to things like good development.

Because Food City wants it, that is why, plain and simple. They are on the wrong side of the road for traffic traveling home at the end of the day, the store is too small for their new designs, they would hire more people with a bigger store.....In other words, the few people at the golf course and select members of city council have screwed the rest of us out of very nice retail development where there is now an abandoned eye sore. In other words, If I was the developer, I would now put owhatever fits in the zoning there to make me the most money, regardless of what people say. I'd say subsidized housing should fit the bill nicely. You can't say we don't need more of that!
Why didnt they build a bigger store to start wirh? We dont need another empty building.

Food City didn't build that store to begin with, they bought a CLOSING DOWN grocery store. So they actually prevented the blight there to begin with. Their growth has outgrown the current space. That is like the city council telling a manufacturing company that they can't expand and hire more people. I for one will remember who voted against it, or abstained, when the city raises taxes again.
