**This is a copy and paste of a bulletin I posted on my Myspace ( www.myspace.com/tammajamma )I have an album on my page of the damage done to the car by Rex. feel free to check it out. I am having to post this on separate sends because it is so long..sorry.
I would like to inform and warn everyone out there of a local "metal fabricator". REX COFFEY - owner of COFFEY BOYZ, located on Sunrise Avenue in Morristown, TN is NOT a fabricator that you want to pay any money to in expectation of a job well done.
On February 6, 2009 David and I paid Rex Coffey $2,550 cash under the presumption that he was going to build a roll cage and do other upgrades and repairs to David's 1985 Shelby Charger. In addition to paying Rex $2,550, David also bought the Sheetmetal & Lexan ($633), pop rivets ($25), steer shaft ($18), and dzus fasteners ($44). This was all the supplies, except for tubing (which is estimated cost $200) that Rex needed to complete the proposed jobs on David's car.
The planned tasks that were asked of Rex include:
1.) Cut, shape, and install sheetmetal inside of car
2.) Buy tubing and build a N.H.R.A./ I.H.R.A.certifiable funny car cage
3.) Airbrush headlights
4.) Make the driver's side door detachable
5.) Build an air intake box for the hoodscoop
6.) Cut windows out of supplied lexan
7.) Lighten hood and attach with dzus fasteners
8.) Put hinges on fuel cell and battery box
9.) Make dash detachable (to make it easier to rewire)
10.) Move firewall forward
Before taking the Charger to Rex's shop, David and Kenny Drinnon gutted the car and took wiring loose. After completion of the above tasks, David and Kenny would then rewire the car themselves. The car, at time of delivery to Rex's shop did not have any body damage. David had plans of taking the Charger to Earl Yount (Morristown) to have it painted after everything was done.
David was very excited about the outcome. I was excited for him. The roll cage is something he HAD to have done for his safety while racing. The car was too small for him and his head was tilted to the side when he sat in it. This was very dangerous for him, so not only were we excited but we were relieved that he would be safe the next time he raced the Charger.
When we paid Rex Coffey, he said that he would get started on the car that following Monday once he got a few other jobs that he had already started out of the way. Rex said it would take him approximately 2 - 3 weeks to complete the job. That would be just in time for racing season, so things were looking good.
After a week of Rex having the car, David stopped by to check on the progress made. The car had not been touched. Rex claimed that the tubing had not came in, but once David checked he found out that Rex had not even made mention to the man that supplies the tubing that he even needed any. This excuse went on for about a month....

During this time, we drove by several times and so did other friends and family to see if any progress was being made. Every time there was stuff (tools, boxes, bench seat, radiator, bottles....) sitting on the Charger as if he was using it as a "COFFEY TABLE" (haha..I had to add some humor in there). Rex had also tried to sub-contract the job to someone else.
David finally told Rex that he wanted his car done and he didn't want stuff piled on it anymore. After that, all Rex did was cut the old roll cage out which was an estimated 5 minute job.
Rex started using the same excuse again that he couldn't get the tubing from the man that supplied it. The car sat in Rex's shop for another month before David called his lawyer. Once David told Rex that he had called a lawyer he finally started working on the Charger. He then promised David the car would be done in a week. TWO WEEKS later, David finally got the Charger back. Rex did not call David to tell him it was finished. He told David's cousin, Gary to tell David he can come get it.
Rex was not at his shop when we went to get it. Upon examining the Charger we were very disappointed. It was not at all up to our expectations. Rex had not done the small things thinking David wouldn't notice.
Rex had not done these tasks:
1.) Did not put the brake and gas petals back on
2.) The Charger did not have any brakes
3.) Did not hook the throttle cable back up
4.) The door was not detachable
5.) Did not build air intake box
6.) No hinges were put on the fuel cell or battery box
7.) Seat was not attached
8.) Dash was not detachable
David had reminded Rex of all of those above listed things up until a day or two of picking up the car. That was not all that we were disgusted about. There were also several damages made to the body of the car while in Rex's shop.
1.) Big dent in quarter panel
2.) Hood was not lined up
3.) Scratches and dents on driver's side front fender as if it were pushed up against something

In the beginning of the deal, Rex had made mention of building a wing for the back of the car and airbrushing lightening bolts on the car. This would cost another $500. David was going to pay this, but after a month of the car not being worked on he said nevermind. Rex would also avoid David's phone calls and was conveniently never in the shop when David was scheduled to come by.
After all of this, Rex has made no efforts to fix anything. He has not tried to resolve the problem at all.
Well, this concludes my warning to the public. Now, I would like to say a few words myself to Mr. Rex Coffey. I know this will somehow get back to him....
HOW LOW CAN YOU GO, DUDE? TAKING THAT MUCH MONEY FROM A FAMILY AND DOING NOTHING AS PROMISED IN RETURN. WE PUT ALL OF OUR TRUST IN YOU. WE GAVE YOU MONEY THAT WE COULD HAVE USED ON OUR NEW HOME OR TO TAKE A VACATION WITH OUR KIDS OR PAID BILLS OR SOMETHING. IT IS NOT OUR FAULT THAT YOU ARE BEHIND ON BILLS OR BEHIND ON PAYING YOUR PROBATION OFFICER. IT IS NOT OUR FAULT THAT YOU ARE DISHONEST AND COWARDLY ABOUT YOUR WRONG-DOINGS. BE A MAN AND FESS UP TO WHAT YOU HAVE DONE. TRY TO MAKE IT RIGHT. WE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE LINED UP TO USE YOU FOR WORK. THAT WAS PROBABLY THOUSANDS OF MORE DOLLARS YOU COULD HAVE HAD IN YOUR POCKET, BUT AFTER BEING DONE LIKE THIS YOU CAN FORGET ABOUT A GOOD WORD FROM US. WE WILL DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO ANYONE ELSE. YOU DID A HORRIBLE JOB. IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT. THE CAR LOOKS WORSE NOW THAN WHEN WE BROUGHT IT TO YOU. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOU. AFTER SEEING SOME OF YOUR WORK, I THOUGHT YOU WOULD DO A GOOD JOB ON DAVID'S CAR. YOU HAVE LET MORE THAN ME AND DAVID DOWN. YOU HAVE LET OUR FAMILY DOWN AND ALL OF OUR FRIENDS THAT WE HAD REFERRED TO YOU. YOU DISGUST ME.

an they ain't nobody tryna read your life history! anyways thats jus to much to read!
#11 May 27, 2010
I should have known there would be someone like you comment on this. I don't care if it is ever read. It's not my life history because that, my dear is none of your business. If someone was thinking about spending as much money as we did with him I would think they would read it. If they don't it's not my problem. All I can do is warn people. The person that originally started this thread asked about experiences with him. I was simply doing that. Are you one of those pissed off little teen drama girls that he is done with or does my ability to read and write intimidate you?
#12 May 27, 2010
i dont think it was to much to read at all. i had someone screw me on a paint job. i wont get the story started again. but i will tell you this.like you i had this guy lined up for at lease two yrs of work. he not only didnt get those jobs i have cost him lots of work since. i refuse to fix my car that way everytime i pull it out of the garage someone sees the shitty work and ask who did it. and i get to tell them all about it. as a matter of fact someone called me the other day. said they where going to use this guy but heard about my car and wanted to know about it. thats another couple thousand he wont be making!!!!!
#13 May 27, 2010
Way to go! It makes me feel a little better every time I stop someone from using Rex to do anything for them. We basically paid him to mess up the car. lol. sorry about your paint job. I'm looking for someone to paint my race truck. I know Andy Bolden is very good but he is expensive. I know, you get what you pay for. Guess I am gonna save my pennies. lol.
