I am wondering if anyone would be interested in coming to a support group for parents of kids with Autism/Aspergers? Also maybe we could have something for the kids. I am a parent of a kid with Aspergers and would love to have other parents to talk to about what they do to cope, and get help for their kids. Ideas, advice. I think the closest one is in Knoxville. If anyone is interested please let me know on here and I will give you info to email me and we will try to get this thing started ASAP. Thanks all!

There was one that started in March this year. They are reformed to a special needs group and are hosting an IEP workshop this week.

My child has Autism/Aspergers and is now grown but like a child. If the group got started I would love to know about it.It would be so nice to talk to other parents who understand. And it would be nice to see my child be able to interact with others without being treated so bad.

I have a 25 year old son, who was diagnosed with having a form of autism, but not autistic. He is also diagnosed with PDD, which means pervasive development disorder..Some of his symptoms are rocking, wringing his hands, stemming. I don't know if he would qualify, probably not the right word, but he would be appropriate for your group. Don't have any idea, what do you think? He is still at home, he doesn't work, is considered disabled.

my second oldest is in the process of being diagnosed with aspergers. We didn't know what it was he might have until he went to therapy and the therapist suggested this. he is 9 now and needs to be handled differently which is hard when I have 5 kids and he gets special treatment, but I guess they all get special treatment in one way or another. He just gets more freedom to do what he wants. He loves to build and create stuff. I know it's hard for him having 4 other siblings. He is not much of a social person. I find it hard to punish him for something he can't seem to control for example: I'll tell him not to go in the kitchen until dinner time and he will just slowly inch his way closer and closer even knowing I'm sitting right here watching. Once he starts something he wont stop until he is done no matter the consequences.

The group that was started last March was poorly attended and everyone in it had their own agenda. One of the women had a grown son and had been through most of what we go through but nobody wanted to listen. Too many chiefs and not enough indians in my opinion.

The parents were angry and not receptive to help.

I have an autistic testical. It does whatever it wants when it wants and acts like it needs special attention just to get money from the school system.

i can't believe I'm even responding to your stupid immature post but the people on here are being sincere and helpful. My advice about that testicle, do the world a favor and cut it off so you can't reproduce more idiots like yourself.
Sorry everyone, I had to!

I just cut it off and I am sincere, too. Most people in the special education world are just trying to get more money from Dale Lynch. I have seen it first hand.
Do yourself a favor and sell your computer and give the money to that autistic lady that speaks to cows.

i don't recall anyone on this post asking or talking about money. What I did gather was a mother trying to start a support group for herself and others. But wait, let me guess, your kids are perfect or you have no kids so you have to put your 2 cents in. Anyone got this one balled guys change? Truth of the matter, I don't have a special needs child, but bet your ass I am willing to help any way I can. So...I am sorry about your condition, maybe I will sale both computers and give u half the money so you can buy a new attitude. Some people...

I want to apologize to all the sincere people posting here. I had no intention of having to put that man in his place but I had to.
Anyone who has a special needs child has my upmost respect. It is so hard to raise kids so I can't even imagine the stress, worry, and bs (like our pal here) my prayers to all, may God bless.

I think a support group with be amazing. My 4 year old son was just diagnosed with Autism this past Monday. I'm confused about everything and would love to know others opinions on dr's and therapist that could help him in our area. If there is a support group out there I would love to attend.

I have a question for those familiar with aspergers. There is someone I know whom I thought was gay but couldn't come out due to his parents strong religious beliefs.however, lately 2 people I have talked to regarding him that have some medical background have suggested he may have aspergers instead & just failed to get a proper diagnosis.since he's highly intelligent his parents never saw a problem or had him tested.could the symptoms mimic that of feminine type behavior?thanks for the help.

Someone please set a time and place and get it going. It is so needed. A support group..Any of the churches in town would probably let us use their facility.
