??? Not sure what this means. Sounds like some sour grapes from a disgruntled current or past employee. We live in a world where we make our own breaks. Can't control our future but can impact it. P-O has produced many, many successful alums...sometimes in spite of idiotic or vengeful school board members. Current group of anti-Benson members rival the worst.

Really? Maybe that's a former Supt. This current board is becoming a laughing stock and making decisions that waste tax dollars. Are the recent drop in PSSA scores related to their internal bickering and support for classroom slackers?

Former classroom slacker? The students don't have to learn. They are given grades and pushed on to make the school look good.

The day of reckoning is soon upon them. 4 schools are in warning for not making annual yearly progress (AYP), the state will be instituting a federally required teacher evaluation system partially reflecting their student PSSA scores, and the 4 + 1 geniuses on the board are about to dispatch with the Supt. I got it....maybe they can blame George Bush.

Mary Ellen Holden, Becky Timchak, Todd Jeffries, where does it end? The way this was handled by predominantly teachers, is a disgrace to this community. What's wrong with you people. I have never been more embarrassed by anything at the po school district. The board should be removed and a new (non-teacher) board should be appointed or the state should step in and take over this losing school district. Who voted small minded people in anyway. Seriously. These teachers should work or if they don't like it, find another teaching position. These teachers need to step up and the board needs to go. We've been humiliated enough. We're a joke as long as we have puppets on the school board being bullied by the teachers. There are rumors that they could merge with a stronger school district. I hope it's true. These kids don't have a chance at this point.

This school has no tolerance for anything different. If your lgbt, they put you down, if you're not white, they put you down, if you're not in sports, they put you down.
This school only cares about sports, they give extra credit to kids to be passing who are in sports. There is little to no funding for the arts. There is no funding at all to drama, which is why the shows have little more than just the kids on stage. If I became a parent I'd move my kids to state college because this school sucks. Mrs. Lane is a lousy woman who should be fired for many reasons. I cant believe that Mr. Simcox became VP because hes an intolerant asshole who favors sporty students. I can count on one hand the good teachers that are there. Ms. Boyle and Mrs. Bookhammer are probably the only teachers that show life outside of this town. Ms. Boyle with here style and poise that people around here don't carry, and Bookhammer for her intolerance of intolerant people. I hated everyday at this school. Save your kids from hell and homeschool.

Wow, "Ex"... tell us how you really feel!! no doubt you were bullied during your years in PO. The new board majority (gang of 4+1) will dismantle any good that has been built in the last 4 years. And there has been good. Teachers have received in depth training and have been forced to talk about what works for kids. That will now stop for many...especially those who have been made uncomfortable by Benson. Someone complained about Jeffries asking what are his qualifications to be on the board. The answer is that he is a resident of his school district and one of its 9 regions. That's it. Rather sad, isn't it. But that is the way it works in PA. His campaign issues were to get rid of Stephen Benson and to keep more youth from leaving the community. Ironically, the bone headed decisions by him and his board cronies will do more to send the kids packing than anything Benson has done. Way to go Todd, Becky, Jim, Mary Ellen, Linda, and Elizabeth. Thanks to Brian, Steve, and Bob fo your selfless service...you will be missed. But as Dr. Benson said, hopefully the Philipsburg community will get the leadership it wants (or deserves??). The whining now by the Benson supporters is way too late. You lost at the last election. Where were you then? One of the most negative (mean?) board members was elected by one vote...and there were very few votes cast. Good luck PO. If you thought the financial mess 8 years ago was bad, wait till you see what these yahoos do now. Pack the board meetings (second Tuesday, fourth Monday) and learn what you are up against.

The funny thing is, I was one of the meanest kids in my class. Its unfortunate that the past is 20/20 because I can't say I would've said it was that horrible while I was there, but being out of there made me realize how many walls I had up, how unhappy I was, because they had no support for the kids. My sisters still attend one dropped out, but I see it in them too, they're miserable. I was gay, my sister is gay and I feel bad for what she'll have to deal with there.
