You do know that there are also derogatory terms for white people, right? The only difference between white people and other nationalities is that, most white people are not offended by the derogatory labels. As a matter of fact, we think they are funny. It seems like brown or black folks are carrying a huge chip on their shoulder. You people need to lighten up (no pun intended).

i understand loolie . i'm american of mexican decent my hay day was in the 70's . i know about the bad influence's in our society , because i grew up amongst the bad people . i learned early on about making choice's . i think by the grace of God i didn't end up like a lot of my old aquaintesis . for me i served during the vietnam war , i never got into drugs , i did smoke on a refer before [ but i didn't inhale ]. i didn't care for it , so i never continued with it . i can truth fully say that i hate drugs , i'v lost a couple of friends because of drugs . i'v seen the end results . i guess the discrimination that i have experience in my life has made me sensitive to it . i guess we all have different ideas about what's politically correct these days and what's not . i'm not a mean person , like i'm sure your not . i guess all i can do is pray for these kids ...... and about the guy and girl from the original story , their really sick . and there you have it , probably the end results of a life of drugs ..........

jack . it may be funny to you when some one of a different race calls you honky or what ever . but to us its degrading . first of all why would i want to call some one a name in the first place , unless it was to belittle them . don't you know wars have started that way . when your mad at some one , saying nasty names are bad enough , but racial slurs are what people find to be most upsetting , to put it nicely . just recently that sick coward from from fort hood texas killed all those army soldiers . he said it was because people were offending him and his muslim religion .....but maybe if he were white he would have laugh it off . is that what your telling me ?. are you to tell me that if i went up to a skin head and called him a , i don't know , maybe a low life inbred Muther - F#%$@* that he's not going to get mad ......... i don't think so ........ maybe as a society we just be a little kinder to one another . how's that ...... like they say lifes too short ......

Cholo, def. Mexican American male gang member typically engaged in criminal activity, burglarly, witness intimidation, drug dealing,etc. I think most people can agree that cholos are typically Mexican but not all Mexicans are cholos. A neighborhood with many Mexicans,lots of Mexican shops, Mexican culture, and Mexican restaurants is a beautiful thing. A neighborhood full of cholos is like a house infested with termites. It can never be a good thing. Cholo,gang banger, gang member are all synonyms.

What I'm saying is the average person who is secure with who they are, shouldn't be bothered by such nonsense. The people that have a chip on their shoulder and who are looking for trouble, are the folks that are offended. You are right, life is too short-so why be cheesed off over a derogatory term, unless of course, it's true.

However, for safety sake I would never call anyone a cholo. You could get killed. I will however continue to refer to Mexican gang members as cholos in private conversation when talking about them or in instances for example when I`m warning people, "hey dont go over to the Bonelli Park this weekend there are a bunch of cholos... its a total cholofest." Wont talk smack about good Mexican Americans because there is nothing bad to say.
