I lived in Hauppauge from 1949 - 1955 and remember passing the duck farms many times. I am surprised that they are still running. There needs to be more work done on solutions to the waste problem, yet still keep the businesses, the same as Indiana and hogs. We have the same problems, on a larger scale.

All that chlorine and nitrogen can be sold easily. I see a business opportunity other than ducks.

Maybe the owners should sell the property to a developer who'll build a development full of stuffy parents and snotbag kids who'll pollute the air,the water, the landfill and overcrowd local schools. Then the local residents will have to fork over millions more in taxes because schools will need more space, teachers and administrators.
Hey that's a plan that has happened quite often on the east end the past twenty years.

they should be shut down, and made to clean-up the pollution that has been"dumped". The days of dumping your waste into the nearest waterway are gone. Try running that show anywere else in the country and see what happens. I can't piss in the wa
ter without getting a fine!! you guys are a joke

The duck farm recently sold it's development rights to the county. They got millions and they get to keep polluting the river. The town wants a moratoriun on construction as if it is the people with their contain sanitary systems that are contaminating the Forge river. Drive by the duck farm and smell the stench. On a warm day it is absolutely disgusting. All that duck waste is what is killing the river and the county has encouraged it. By the way, who eats duck?

That is exactly what would happen. Contrary to what many tyros may believe, more development = higher taxes and increased public service. Thankfully, this site cannot be developed as the county has preserved it. The farm is doing the right thing and cooperationg with the proper agencies. More than I can say for many residents farther south on the river...
