So Mastic Beach mainland is part of FIMP? Or are we just sentenced to NY Rising?

Fire Island to Montauk Project (FIMP) is to restore the dunes to protect all mainland. It has nothing to do with NY Rising or Mastic Beach Rising which are grants to raise the level of homes in flood prone areas to a hight above flood elevation. The village of MB fought hard to keep the project and fight the previously announced delay.

I found the correct answer.
"Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point (FIMP) Reformulation Study ‐ This 2009
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plan is in progress. The study will identify,
evaluate, and recommend long‐term solutions for hurricane and storm
damage reduction for homes and businesses within the floodplain along
the ocean and bay shoreline from Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point. The
planning area extends across the bays to the mainland of Long Island (all in
Suffolk County). In some locations, the study area extends northward to
Sunrise Highway. Recent media reports indicate that the study will be
completed in the near future. Upon approval, funding will become
available to complete projects recommended by the study. It is expected
that this will include increasing the height and width of the primary dune
on the ocean side of the island and widening the beach face. There are
also components of the plan that will affect the South Shore and Mastic
Beach and Smith Point of Shirley"
Thank You

See the map on page 1? What's missing?
Mastic Beach left out once again. Millions of dollars of federally funded storm prevention.
For Long Beach.

Maybe they are assuming MBV will just disappear? Or, the two projects are just not the same.

Maybe we have all been abducted by aliens?
Of course the two projects are not the same.
HUD is sponsoring the project I linked.
And we ain't in it.
Why not? Does the Village of Mastic Beach not pay federal tax dollars?
Or perhaps we aren't friendly with the correct organized criminals at the federal level?

So your motive for the comment was to imply the village is somehow derelict in getting things for MBV. But, I also noticed nothing in your link dealt with Center Moriches, Bellport, Patchogue, Shirley, or any other Suffolk County location.

What you are not giving the village credit for is Mastic Beach Rising, a far more generous and comprehensive grant program that will help many MBV homeowners. You don't see that in any other Town of Brookhaven community.

Village officials have gone over and above trying to get the help we need.
Federal officials who run HUD need to understand that to us this is not a "Competition" or some other "game".

Perhaps we, as a municipality, don't warrant any attention or value because we, as a municipality, don't generate enough revenue. Relatively speaking, we have a large percentage of households "receiving" from the feds, rather than providing "income" for the feds. There is no real industry here to support for growth. We are small potatoes, with nothing to offer, compared to larger, more developed, revenue generating, highly populated municipalities that have thriving industry. In other words, we are not worth investing in.
Further, eco-tourism is a very weak concept to base your development on. A good gauge for my opinion: how many people are running to the Wertheim to see water and birds? They're just lining up by the thousands to get in. Right? What a waste of money that was. How crowded has the kayak rental place on Montauk Hwy. ever been? Zero. Look, we're not the Grand Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, etc. Good luck with the failure that awaits us with eco-tourism.
New York Rising is an economic development plan. We have no local economy to develop, so I suspect no help will be offered here. You want help? We better start building something. Over and out.

"NY Rising is a help the community that was devastated by Sandy plan." Really? Follow the money, see where the funding is going. Neighbor to neighbor, nothing "sucks." Too bad you feel that way.

I must have misread your sincerity. Please accept my apology. And I guess you think only "certain" residents are going to get help. Tell me more, I am fascinated.

OK. Apology accepted. About NY Rising, I wonder if anyone is going to get help. You have probably seen or read news that everyone is still waiting. More to the point, NY Rising is a huge program, only a small piece of it is about Sandy help for homeowners. It is actually an economic development plan for the State. Or it conveniently evolved into part of the State's multi-funded, multi-program, revitalization of the economic aspects of the State, it's infrastructure, addresses transportation, education, casino building, the funding is going all over the map. What a convenient way to steer the monies away from those that were led to believe help was on the way. NOT. Look over the 48 pg. document on the State site, with pages 10 - 11 only about Sandy. Once the funding comes in, there's no telling where it's going, with every program and municipality in the State trying to get their hands on it. Remember that not only victims of Sandy were invited to apply, but those of Irene and Lee (upstate storm). Easy come, easy go. I doubt our little village will see its fair share, as the money is going everywhere else, and the individuals that were invited to apply haven't received help yet. This is what happened with Katrina, too. There's much to be known about this. Relatively, the few people that need help are a drop in the bucket next to where this thing is going. People will forget about it soon enough. Life will go on. Who cares about a small group of unhappy taxpayers. Casinos upstate! Millions to the MTA! Now that's the reality.
