3rd student targeted in William Floyd district

Concern about predators targeting students continued to climb in the William Floyd School District yesterday after a third student in the past two weeks was threatened near a school, Suffolk police said.

This is amazing news. 35 years ago, when I was in my teens, a man harrassing a woman from his car was considered commonplace and never reported. It was humiliating and scary.

I am so glad women are not putting up with this anymore, and that Newsday reports on the topic.

Seems to me a maroon Hummer with no plates cruising around Mastic ought to be easy to spot. It's not the most common vehicle around the 'hood.

And why does anyone care what race he is? Dirtbags come in every color of the rainbow. Are YOU going to confront him & save the day?

This is ridiculous. My 8 yeard old niece is part of this school district, and I know it's not the school district that is is to blame, but who's getting involved with this? It is an election year isn't it? These kids should not have to feel this way, or be able to ride thier bikes in their neighborhoods!!

It's not a race thing - it's an identification thing. That's how we find the perps - by knowing what people look like. The article, to be helpful, should include a description of the offender to help the citizens protect themselves.

I, for one, will be on the lookout for a maroon Hummer in the neighborhood - since I actually live here, and that's the only info I have. And I will absolutely confront the coward. I'm not afraid of a man who picks on children.

Let's not forget why Mastic is a dumping ground for Section 8 and sex offenders. Because we let it be that way...that's why. Try to remember to vote next time, maybe we can help ourselves out.

I am sending the following e-mail and urge you to do the same if you want to see change in this community. For those of you who don't care and simply want to bash our residents, please don't bother reading any further.

Dear Ms. Browning:

As a concerned parent in the William Floyd School District I am compelled to send this e-mail to you in an effort to urge you to take severe actions against the recent attacks against our children and the pitiful state our district has become. I am not a political person, but after these most recent acts against our community I must tell you that your lack of any form of representation is absolutely shameful and appalling. It amazes me that this community is such a dumping ground for sex offenders and other criminal elements and yet our elected officials are nowhere to be found – except that is for election time when your signs litter our streets and your representatives knock on our door telling us what a wonderful person you are. WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU DOING TO BETTER OUR COMMUNITY???? I post this as a very concerned parent who time and again has witnessed the taxpaying citizens and children of this District be ignored by our political representation and have become embarrassed to call this town our home. How sad it is that you post on your website that you are “a strong voice in the Legislature for working families as I fight to protect our children, defend our seniors, and ensure that our community is a safe, affordable, and peaceful place to live.” AGAIN, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SINCE BEING ELECTED IN 2005 TO BETTER THIS SITUATION???

I urge you to take a look at the Newsday forums concerning these incidents which have occurred in the past 10 days. I along with so many other citizens who are fed up with your lack of action, feel it is your duty as a civil representative of this community to attend the following town meeting:

My point is, the ONLY way anyone besides the cops can "help" is by IDing the car. Without the car, it's just another white guy, black guy, etc. Give me a break. How many Hummers of ANY color are cruising around Mastic?
