Plan to Renovate Library on Long Island and Lay Off 150 Workers Put on Hold
A 16-month, $5 million renovation of the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library on New York's Long Island has been shelved indefinitely, good news for the 150 or so employees facing layoffs but a blow for library officials who have publicly stressed an urgent need to begin much-needed repairs and upgrades to the building.

Shut it, no repairs to the decrepit facility.why the local residents can't read.They are welfare and social service trailer trash who rater drink beer and smoke cigarettes.

I agree Shirley is a low class area most residents don't read the RATHER go buy cigarettes and beer and drink on front lawns an watch derilict cars parked all over. very trashy area, Libary is a waist of time and money just build another Bedega or chicken ribs joint.

Reading and writing is over rated in Shirley & Mastic two towns where education come last and crime & welfare is at the formost front, a close second are drugs and ilegal appartments in Mastic & Shirley a Library is not needed maybe more hotdogs trucks or another check cashing joint.
