Full story: Asbury Park Press

The two Democratic candidates contend that Matawan's finances are out of control, which directly impacts upon residents' taxes. "Property taxes are too high, businesses are closing on Main Street, and the infrastructure of the town is falling apart," Mullaney said. "If re-elected, we will push for a property tax reassessment to reflect current market values, not the inflated values of 2006," when property revaluation was performed. There is NO need for another reassessment , property values are -20%, simply adjust -20% from last assessment to reflect current value and save the town a couple of hundred grand in reassessment costs. Also Mullaney pushed for " C-town " claiming it would be the crown jewel of a downtown revival , guess what , it closed in 6 months & has been a vacant eyesore for 2 years now. Mullaney is also against neon signs ! Who cares ? If an old or NEW business wants to advertise in neon , I`m all for it , as long as it brings business into town . We need to make it EASIER for business to start here & stop putting up roadblocks and restrictions. A large corporate / business tax base will EASE our tax burden
much like Point Pleasant and Red Bank . Right now we are a drive thru town & not a destination for visitors and consumers . The council needs to look at the big picture & stop squabbling about neon signs. Encourage new business and growth or our taxes will go up & up & ....

Thank you fellow Matawan residents for electing Republicans Andrew Lopez Jr. & Toni Angelini to our town council . We finally get rid of Bud " I`m full of hot air " Mullaney and his Mullaneyville ideas of no neon signs, no progress, business as usual .We now have a majority in the council and can move forward and make Matawan a better place to live with fiscally responsible leaders who want to bring growth to Matawan & lower our taxes in the process.Unlike Mullaney who threatend the town with lawsuits if his own interests were opposed.

Daily Horoscope for December 21

Taurus

If you're a typical Taurean you value both your emotional and physical security, and often tend to restrict your actions accordingly. But during the coming month you'll need to spread your wings more widely than usual, whether through mental or physical pursuits. It will do you good to be more adventurous for a change, and to embrace life in all its aspects.
