How many more of your employees are you gonna let get seriously injuried or killed b4 you realize its a scheduling problem. Y'all work your employees to long of hours you can't expect a human being to work non stop for 24 hours. The other issue is in dispatch instead of giving the crew a rest if that certain dispatcher don't like that certain somebody they run them non stop which is probley what happend with mark and his partner.

The average every day citizen has no clue about EMS. Yes, we do work long hours but we are also required to have "down" time. It is a tragic situatuion that has occured and it could happen to anyone at any time. God has a plan for all of us, and his will has been done. EMT Kinder will be missed greatly but I do not think a public forum is the place to show your ignorance or disrespect...And no I don't work for JC, never have and never will. And also, to lay blame on Seamnan is completely unecessary.

too whom this will affect, paul seaman is not the blame. He only does what rick cornett tells him. I worked there many years.rick and todd have known about this for years. even kevin richie complained two days before his death. I was there. its too late after lives are lost, but you are right. Now is not the times. But when will be the right time?

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and coworkers of this young man who passed away while performing this vital community service.

Required to have down time is one thing. Allowing the employee to utilize that downtime is another thing.

Why not limit everyone's schedule to 48 hours instead of 72 a week, and pay them what they would make in the 72 hours just in 48, lot less of these accidents and burn out rate happening. 72 hours is way way too long for a workweek and it almost borderline illegal, WV law states that anything over 40 hours a week is forced overtime. I heard thy only barley make above minimum wage anyways, national average for EMTs is 11.50 and medics is $15.38

Reducing the hours per week probley wouldn't help cause of the call load we would still get ran just as hard I thank we should decrease amount of hours we work per shift to either 8 hr days or 12 hr days and or hire a lot more people

First off there is no required down time so don't be trying to put that out there
Second yes many dispatchers pick on certain crews.
Third the pay does not match the job.
Fourth hours need to be less per shirt with higher pay per hour.
Fifth the managers of the companies are to blame the deaths are solely on them they have all the power to change things but that would mean they lose money so shame on these owners and or managers. Put your employees above the money.

Running paramedics on little to know sleep is a safety hazard to not only the employee but the general public as well. What does the employee handbook state about down time? Go look it up. Oh wait I bet you do not have a copy. If you are a paramedic then I suggest asking your employer for one. Come back when you have a copy in hand. Until then read the below information.

According to WV Code:

CHAPTER 21. LABOR.
ARTICLE 3. SAFETY AND WELFARE OF EMPLOYEES.

21-3-1. Employers to safeguard life, etc., of employees; reports and investigations of accidents; orders of commissioner.
Every employer shall furnish employment which shall be reasonably safe for the employees therein engaged and shall furnish and use safety devices and safeguards, and shall adopt and use methods and processes reasonably adequate to render employment and the place of employment safe, and shall do every other thing reasonably necessary to protect the life, health, safety, and welfare of such employees: Provided, That as used in this section, the terms "safe" or "safety" as applied to any employment, place of employment, place of public assembly or public building, shall include, without being restricted hereby, conditions and methods of sanitation and hygiene reasonably necessary for the protection of the life, health, safety, or welfare of employees or the public.

Every employer and every owner of a place of employment, place of public assembly, or a public building, now or hereafter constructed, shall so construct, repair and maintain the same as to render it reasonably safe.

When an accident occurs in any place of employment or public institution which results in injury to any employee, the employer or owner of such place of employment or public institution, when the same shall come to his knowledge, shall provide the commissioner of labor the necessary information as to cause of the injury, on blanks furnished free of charge to the employer and prescribed by the commissioner of labor.

To carry out the provisions of this chapter the commissioner of labor shall have the power to investigate and prescribe that reasonable safety devices, safeguards, or other means of protection be adopted for the prevention of accidents in every employment or place of employment, and to make, modify, repeal, and enforce reasonable general orders, applicable to either employers or employees, or both, for the prevention of accidents.

Another one for the paramedic. Much research has been conducted on the hazards of sleep deprivation.

21-3A-5. Duties of employer and employee.

(a) Each employer shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm or serious illness to his employees.
