These candidates for Morgantown Together are a bunch of liberals and community activists who want to spend all of our money on their community groups and Sunnyside UP and leave nothing for our city to run on. No BUSINESS BACKGROUND! We need a VICTORY FOR MORGANTOWN!

The only way for Morgantown to achieve a Victory in this election is to re-elect Manilla and Herbst, and elect Redmond, Graham and Furfari.
Anything less will be disastrous for Morgantown!
Cheers!

First and foremost, I encourage everyone to get out and vote in this election. Our city is not in good shape and the liberal members of council who were in control in late 2010 contributed to the current problems. They envisioned "change" and thought by bringing in a bunch of outsiders they would bring about that change they so desired. Their accomplishment nearly bankrupted the city. Instead of admitting their mistakes, they supported a city manager and his appointed department heads who were ill prepared and lacked the skills and local knowledge needed to keep Morgantown on track. The 2011 election brought changes to council but it took the new, more conservative majority of council months to push the city manager out the door. This was met with embarrassing in fighting and excessive closed door council meetings that apparently hammered out an agreement that would allow the city manager to move on without much comment. The city and it's residents are now in a position to see improvement or return to the control of liberal activist who formed Morgantown Together who want to regain control of council. Their agenda is pretty clear. As someone said in a recent letter to the editor, candidates running in blocs is scary and I have zero faith in anyone who can't run on their own merits.

Does anyone know anything about the security guard who was attacked sat night the 27th at an apt complex? I was told that he is in pretty bad shape with a broken jaw & other bones in his face.

He was pulling security duty at the apt. complex where he works & had his Glock 23 40s&w. on his hip but never seen the punch coming. One punched him from the side in the jaw, broke it, and knocked him out cold. Once he was on the ground all 7 started started stomping and kicking him. His jaw is broke in two places and one side is completely out of its socket.
His nose is broke in 3 places and the airway is crushed. He has to have 2 different surgeries, 1 is to repair his jaw and to put a metal plate and pins, the other is facial reconstruction surgery to attempt to repair his nose.

my response is following......

It takes REAL men to do something like this folks. It's a wonder that they didn't kill him with his own gun.....

Well, the voters have spoken. It is a sad day for Morgantown. We all just left Gibbies pub in total shock. Several of us locals gathered to monitor the election. None of us expected this. Morgantown will be headed in an entirely different direction. Small businesses will suffer, and WVU push Morgantown aside like a rag doll. The special interest groups will have a field day with the city budget.
Thank you to Jim Manilla, Linda Herbst, Ron Bane, and Wes Nugent for doing your best to fix the mess left by Terrance Moore.

Well, you must give credit where it's due. The folks who ran as a bloc (Morgantown Together)organized and financed a good campaign. As a resident and business person in this community, I'm not looking forward to the next 2 years. These 5 newly elected liberal members of council will be in control for the next two years. Let's see how truthful they were when the said they wouldn't be voting together. Time will tell.

As Ron said, it is a sad time for Morgantown. I am certain with these people that were shockingly elected that the City is in store for more ruin that it is already in. So now after trying to recover from Moore and the band of idiots he hired, we will now have uninformed, unrealistic people attempting to run the city. Jim Manila was the best person for the City and due to the laziness of the city residents he is gone and a new band of clueless people can run the city. Great. Good times ahead. Looks like it is time to head out into the county.

New to this forum, find it interesting. As far as election goes, I think current council members took for granted that being the incumbent gave them an edge. They probably did too little too late. They took way too long to get Moore out of the city managers office. The "together group" was pretty organized and went door to door in every neighborhood. Second, I think the ruin that someone mentioned is a direct reflection on the current members of council. I agree that Moore and those he hired have taken a toll on the city. Therefore, I didn't vote for any incumbent, I believe we need to give someone else a chance to correct the problems we find ourselves in.

There is still light at the end of the tunnel. One of Moore's appointed department heads is openly looking for another job and rumors are rampant again that the new council isn't too happy with the others. I predict that most if not all of his "team" will be gone by Jan.

I lived in Morgantown for over 27 years and then moved to Fairmont. Believe me, Morgantown is the better place to live. If you want to see bad neighborhoods, look no further than Fairmont.

The administration announced the hiring of the former airport director as the new assistant city manager. He's an aggressive no nonsense kind of administrator who will get things done and not put up with the lies and b.s. that's been going on for the past couple of years. The new city manager made an excellent choice. This is a positive sign of things to come. Stay tuned!

I hope you're right. Unfortunately, and let me be clear here; I don't know much at all about the new assistant manager hire, but I think city administration faces a daunting task. It will take years to recover from the damage done by Terrence Moore. What I can say is Mikorski understands the finances very well, and if left alone, should get things back on track. The new assistant may be able to help Mikorski if he has a financial background. The new council will be their obstacle with their very liberal viewpoints and probable spending frenzies. I've already heard the new council members will be monitoring the new city administrators very closely. That is the word on the street. Time will tell....

Agree on several points. Mr. Mikorski has met with some employees to get a feel for morale. He knows there are many internal problems that need to be handled. He's also explained that it's going to take time to fix things financially. I think he'll rely on Mr. Kelly to handle day to day operational issues while he concentrates on getting the finances back on track (my opinion). I also agree that the new council will present some obstacles but all new council members do that at first. The trick will be, how long will it last? We (employees) are thinking that some internal changes will be coming once Mr. Kelly is on board.

I fear the newly elected council is going to go in an entirely new direction. I suspect they won't/ don't support the current administration simply because things were done so quickly. I know one of the newly elected council members and she is already eluding to a "house cleaning". I think things are going to get much worse before they get better. We as city residents enjoyed a nice long period of steady leadership and good financial management.

Newly elected council has an agenda, they also have the majority so they we rule. I suspect it will be a bumpy road for the next few months. Their antics won't hold a candle to Westover. Watch and see!

Well it seems dumb & dumber have been selected as Mayor & deputy mayor. Wonder how they will do with out Bill Byrne to guide them. It should be an interesting 2 years. Good thing we have a competent city manager. He also selected a good candidate as his assistant.
