Fine example. a "communications manager" job was created and the person that was hired can't even keep the city web site updated. That's money well spent!
That's a perfect example of the wasteful mismanagement that comes with the hiring of those who have absolutely no regard for the city, residents or employees. Many of the longtime employees and residents pointed out these outsiders would come in, pad their paychecks and resumes and move on. Guess what's happening?

Has anyone else noticed that many areas around the city appear to be worse than normal? Brockway Avenue is becoming worse than the other slum rental neighborhoods like Sunnyside and Greenmont. Mounds of garbage and old furniture have been piled along the streets for a week. In years past city crews were out in force cleaning up from the student move out prior to commencement but this year you had to practically drive around piles of garbage. I realize that people need to be responsible but city officials should be working to clean up and keep things in check.
I would love to do a story on this for my Television Journalism class, would you in any way be interested in an interview?

Hello everybody,

I'm not from Morgantown, but I do attend WVU. Anyways, I'm a Television Journalism student here and I'm looking to do a public affairs story. So if there's any issue in Morgantown that you would like to be addressed, please leave a reply!

I'm sure you will get plenty of feedback and ideas from people on here. Just look through the posts and you can feel the frustration of residents, business people and employees. I still find it amazing how a few people could screw things up in such a short time. Good luck!

From what I hear, just a short list of 2-3 people that most members of council are not happy with.

Agree, friend of mine is a member of council and they are well aware of all the issues. I believe they are cautiously working towards change which will include some personnel changes.

Although everyone was glad to see the city manager leave, morale has not improved. Nothing but negative news coming out of city hall. No cost of living raises, more budget shortfalls etc. For those of us who have been here a long time, this is an all too familiar scenario that employees went through in the late 80's - early 90's. Now we must once again tighten our belts because of poor management. I'm hearing that those who can leave will be retiring and those who haven't been here long are already looking for jobs.

With the upcoming city election and Byrne choosing not to run, the makeup of city council is about to change again. In my opinion, regardless of who wins, the changes will be for the better. With the exception of one candidate, those running are fairly conservative. Like him or not, Byrne had a good bit of control, and two others (Selin and Shamberger) always followed his lead. With him not running, the followers will be losing their leader. Once the election is over, the first order of business will be major personnel changes.

Of course there will be major personnel changes, people are fed up with how this mayor and council has set our city back!

Pretty sure bet that most, if not all of those department heads that were appointed by the previous city manager will be replaced.

Why? Are they doing a poor job? I think the people we should all look at replacing are the city council members. They are doing a terrible job. There isn't enough money in the budget this year to give city employees a cost of living raise, but they want to buy an old school for almost $500,000. Plus they give to every charity in town that holds out their hand. If they aren't willing to make the employees of the city one of their priorities, then they don't need to represent this city.

Just posting what I've heard from reliable sources. As far as funding outside charities. That's not just a city council issue, it happens at all levels of government and it's called POLITICS! That's how these people get support and that's how they get elected.

I've said it before and will repeat. The hiring of Mr. Moore was a miserable failure and those brought in and hired by him will forever be connected to him. I agree that those ties must be cut too for the city to move forward.

Agree! A house cleaning is needed before they can re-build. From what I hear, it will probably happen.

Don't foresee much improvement unless all of his department head appointments are replaced. We hear it's coming before July.
