I'm guessing we'll see some additional changes now that Mr. Moore has resigned. The make up of city council is different than when he was hired.

Council is working to make some changes, not as quickly as some would want (me included) but at least they sent the city manager on his way. Now if they continue with reorganization by putting people in leadership positions that actually have a stake in our city, we may be able to pull ourselves up and out of the mess we find ourselves in. The next few months will be critical in the direction this city takes. Hopefully council will continue with changes before the next election.

First time commenting on this thread. I have read over most of the posts going back nearly two years and totally agree that things at the city are in need of a complete overhaul. From trashy run down, littered properties to increasing crime and violence, the members of council have some hard work and more difficult decisions ahead of them. Hopefully our council is finally realizing that their choices in leadership positions have not been the best. For now, I will support our elected officials as long as they show that they make the best interests of our city a priority. Replacing the city manager seems like a good start.

It appears that certain members of city council need to re read the charter. I believe part of the reason Mr. Moore left was due to members of council micromanaging him and interfering in the day to day business of the city in ways that the charter does not permit. It is reasonable for a professional to go where the rules are played by.

I'm responding as City Resident 1 as there appears to be two of us. I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of the city so the statement that council members violating the charter may well be part of the problem. I can say that as both a city resident and business owner, in my opinion Moore didn't mesh well with the city council or residents. As stated by me earlier, he got off to a bad start and never really recovered. That, coupled with some poor management decisions lead to his demise. I can only hope that council learns from their mistakes and at least gets someone who has ties to WV that can relate to us and our community better than he did.

Getting off to a bad start is the understatement of the year. The man could not be trusted and had no credibility. He made some other poor choices that need to be fixed before the city can move on. The best thing council can do right now is to give the interim manager full rein to finish the house cleaning.

This forum is not a place for your "personal" messages. And a small suggestion, be careful what you put out here for everyone to read. None of you are as anonymous as you think you are.

Thanks for the suggestion. The more people that read the messages the better. Thanks to Topix for giving people a way to get their opinions out there.

Can we just fix the damn roads around here. They are small and atrocious. Not to mention falling apart.

Was just reviewing this thread and felt the need to comment on just how accurate most of the postings have been on here. As predicted, the city manager didn't last, although I will admit he was here longer than most (including me) expected. The media was very kind to him even with his hiring being a total failure. I suspect other "issues" played a role with the local media giving him nothing but positive press. If it were someone else, would they have been so kind? I don't think so. The next few months will be interesting too, with the city election coming up and some new faces emerging. I still think that the department heads who were brought in by the city manager won't be far behind him.

A huge change in morale when Mr. Moore stepped down. Most, if not all city employees are hoping for additional changes in the near future. Couldn't agree more that the media has turned a blind eye to the whole situation within the city.

By way of background, I am a former law enforcement officer who retired from a rather large metro area. After much investigation, I chose, based on many factors to move to WV nearly 13 years ago. I have seen, experienced and worked through similar situations involving administrative changes more than once in my 30 years of government service. When the City of Morgantown announced the hiring of both a city manager and police chief from outside of WV, I immediately had my doubts. These folks who are brought in from outside of the organization, who have no connections or ties to the community at all, rarely stay for any extended time. There are exceptions but I can't think of many. In reading other posts on here, seems this whole scenario has played out in Morgantown before and what's happening right now is what most people expected. Time will tell. Just my opinion.

I have said this again and again. How can WE expect someone that has absolutely no ties to our city/state to be connected to our community. Give me homegrown vs. import anytime. It's just a job and a stepping stone. Watch and wait.

You obviously don't do your homework, our police chief was born in WV and has just bought a house here. Looks like he's planning on sticking around for a while, especially since his family is still in WV. Just because he didn't live here his entire life doesn't mean he can't do the job.

An appointed official buying a house when his boss was just pushed out the door? Election is in 2 months too. What a risk taker!
