I support getting rid of the police officers and the police department and turning it over to the Sheriff. There are only 2 officers worth of the Sheriff looking at for employment: Deweese for sure, I guess there is only one.

Absolutely! If large city's such as Las Vegas,Lexington, and others can function with one police department, surely Morgantown (hello) can function without crime becoming rampant!!! Geez, this is a no brainer!

Yes, I support it! More people support it than those that don't. Its just those who support it aren't willing to speak out when Andys' known to do as he wishes, off duty & then get out of it. So, noones gonna say they support it with the possiblity of it staying & then Andy can come to their home off duty & pick on them. He was a good kid in school but has turned into a power-nut.

Billy Bob and and are a disgrace!!! Actually I was thinking of something more like putrid specks of fly vomit, but that personal. So disgrace is an understatement in my mind. Heck lets go back in this further. I once told Joe Gaddie that "until you get rid of any and all deputies that were affiliated with the Kenneth Morris regime, you will NOT gain any respect regarding your department." He did so and peoples outlook on the department improved although Gaddie's personality did not help him! People have obviously forgotten about former Chief Ronnie Burden! He was as corrupt as Kenneth, in fact it got so bad he was ENCOURAGED to retire. Problem is that his replacement Billy Bob was part of his "REGIME" and was almost as corrupt as Ronnie. To sum this up for readers, the MAYOR or anyone who gives a crap: Billy Bob may be going but a big part of his regime will be replacing him, that being Andrew Gidcumb! Allow me to reiterate but change my previous statement. "until you get rid of any and all officers that were affiliated with the Ronnie Burden/Billy Bob regime, you will NOT gain any respect regarding your department."

I am not including newer officers such as Deweese and the other one.

It's a bad idea to give so much power to an elected official like the Sheriff.
Chief Phelps is well respected within Kentucky Law Enforcement. He has put MPD on the map and brought in tons of money from federal grants (it's been over a million dollars). He's a graduate of the FBI National Academy, which is the best police administrators course in the world. Less than one percent of applicants are accepted into the program.
Morgantown/Butler County going Metro IS a good idea, but that's not what this is. Going Metro would mean taking all the Sheriff's deputies and the city police, putting them together and calling them the Butler County Police Department or Morgantown Metro. Metro departments like, Louisville and Lexington handle all police functions throughout their respective counties. They still have Sheriffs Departments, which only handle elections, court security, serving papers, and prisoner transport. In such communities Sheriffs have small offices.
I pay taxes in Morgantown to Morgantown and I want Morgantown providing me with police protection, not pawning it off on someone else.
Of course this plan will save money. It only calls for 3.5 new deputies to be hired to patrol Morgantown, a job which has been done by about 5 full time officers and 2 part timers the last few years (and a school resource officer who worked the street during the summer months). Half the people for half the price= half the coverage.
The other posts on here so far are obviously written by people that have been arrested by MPD. Regardless of what happens to MPD, you people are getting arrested by someone. When the Sheriff's Department makes you good and mad, who will you support to eliminate them? On Guard security?
please

please.....obviously you really do not know Billy! Either this is Billy or one of his family members or the few twisted friends he has. If you only knew the things he has hidden in his closet then you would know that doesnt make a respectable police officer let alone a cheif of police!!!!

@Please ,you are 100% Right with what you are saying!!!I would be willing to bet that Billy or Andy wrote this their self!If so many people are aganist combining the 2 depts,WHY was'nt more people at the city council meeting voicing how they feel instead of 2 people( Billy bob's mother-in-law &his big buddy Chad Johnson) that says it all! anyone that knows Chad knows he does'nt have the sense to write a letter like he read stating KRS's and how many aresst and citations the city police have written and how much money the Cheif has gotten for the dept.and Terrell House told the truth when he said the idea came from the cheif! so go figure?????

Dispose of the department and put it all under 1 roof. take the extra money and hire 2 or 3 full time firemen. I needed the fire department 3 years ago when my car caught on fire. From the time I called to the time the first truck showed up was 46 min.(according to my call list) I was 2 mi from the race track on Provo rd. Once they got there the car was burning its self out. After asking what took so long I was told everyone was a volunteer and they had to come from Logansport to Morgantown then come my way. They had tried to page Rochester fire department but no one responded. I am in no way blaming this on the firemen. I just think there should be a staff in the firehouse after this. What if this was my house? What if it was yours? what if my daughter or yours was inside? Cars and homes can be replaced but lives never can be!

Sure, do away with the Morgantown City Police Department. And then do away with the city government all together. That should save a bundle.

Never understood why there are 2 departments for such a small county anyway. All I ever see the city police doing is eating at the Farmboy or Garcias. There should be one department of law enforcement for the entire county. Maybe add a few more officers to take on different areas so they aren't stretched so thin. it would save a lot of money, might hurt the restaurant industry in Morgantown, but save the county money in the long run.

go take a look out at pizza zone. Billy Bob & Andy live there! Combine both togather. the sheriff's dept does way more and their deputies are respectable honest people. our city police are a joke! other small towns are converting to one department and Morgantown wants to get upset about it? why? cause the city police would actually have to get a realt job and not sit around the farm boy and pizza zone and gossip about everyone else????
