I think people should do whaqt they want with their money, they either gonna spend it on lotto with NC that isn't doing nothing with the money. When the city of Raleigh can't even pay their own light bill.

internet sweepstakes is just a way to milk money out of poor people poor people thank they can increase there dollar by gambling but i have seen first hand what these places do they make sure the elderly win just enough on check day when they get the social security check, to get them to think they have won something and that if they keep feeding these machines they will hit he mother load but accourding to whats going around they wont be around much longer and the elderly who are at the food banks not showing up to get free food cause they will have the money to buy the food once these money hungry wolves are shut down pemantly.

The reason they were shut down was because the Internet Sweepstakes parlors are cutting in the states Lottery action. The state doesn't like the competition when it comes to gambling.

Even the B D S D admitted they are quite sure if it's illegal. Maybe these 56 businesses will take a stand against this questionable raid.

They just saved gas money not having to drive so far to spend their grandkids inheritance.
No it's not quite the same difference. The state is very hypocritical in this case. They are running a gambling operation disguised as a benefit to the education system. It was a shame from the beginning. The "Education Lottery" is a voluntary tax. Now the funds have been shifted in the general budget. As long as the state is into gambling, I say let others run theirs too.

They need to!! They need band together and hire a damn good attorney. Let's get the high Sheriff on the stand and find out why they raided these places, if they aren't quite sure if they are even illegal! Damn Burke County, get behind these folks and stamp out run amuck law enforcement!

Which is EXACTLY what the State of North Carolina is doing with their Education Lottery. If it's good enough for the State to run a gambling game, why can't the citizens?

I agree with most everything stated here. The one thing that I would add is...anyone that receives public funding for food, housing and/or general welfare, can be charged if caught in these establishments. There are a few private investigators getting rich here.....yeahhhh!!!

I feel like they should probably be shut down. I saw one of those places that actually had a sign offering $5 to any senior citizens that come in to play. I don't think that's fair, seeing how as some older folks aren't always in their right mind. That seems a little too close to stealing in my opinion. Preying on the seniors is just not right. I understand that they are making the decision to walk in those places, but like I said, they aren't always in their right mind and could easily spend all of their money without even knowing. The house usually wins, and gambling isn't the way to try to make your house payments/power bill/etc.

some of these last few comments show exactly how uninformed most of the people posting are..If you have not actually visited these places you have no idea what is going on..From my experience these places are as much a place to gather for social time as it is for the gaming..Problem is we are in the middle of the bible belt and people cant mind their on business..They swear sweepstakes are wrong yet stop on the way home and buy lottery tickets..It is the same thing, if sweepstakes are wrong then the lottery is as well

I can't believe that someone is actually defending these places. They are designed for one thing.....TO MAKE MONEY!!!. That said, they are not designed to make anyone a millionaire, except the owners of these esablishments. These places are a perfect place to develop lung cancer, because even if you don't smoke, you will suffer anyway. Most of the people, here in NC, that play the lottery, sweepstakes etc, are lumped into one category. Low to very low income families, desperate for a quick fix to their economic woes. I know personally of those who receive food stamps, medicaid for their children, free school lunches etc, but they will be damned if they will do without that case of beer, carton of cigarettes and lottery tickets each time they walk into one of the many greedy "tobacco" stores we have in this once great state. If we all stood up against this behavior, time has proven that it is the only true solution, telling our leaders, NOT ON TOPIX, that we are sick of it....ohh what a minute....I forgot....that takes people who care...and from what i've seen they are hard to find lately!!!!!

Seems like Public Defender has all the answer to the worlds problems..Again it is easy to pull any negative info from any situation, be it gaming, smoking, drinking but you know what? It is called free will and people should have a right to make a decision be it right or wrong..I do play sweepstakes yet I am far from low income. I do not drink but if others choose to it is their business within reason. Tax money is handed to people and they choose to spend it unwisely but the problem is all the entitlement programs giving away our money in the first place. Once they receive the funds they also have free will how to spend it..

far from low income?....keep playing, you will be. My family owns some of the very stores with sweepstakes that i loathe. The rules are totally stack against you and when someone in a certain area wins more than $500.00, we change to numbers to make it harder to win. So keep playing, we are far from low income because of your greedy habits!!!!!!

1st of all why so much hatred! If you dont like the sweepstakes dont go! IT IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS! Personaly I love them and hate cherokee and the nc lottery the odds of winning is so much greater with the swepstakes. It is an outlet from dumb people such as the ones here! Common sense lets you know its not going to make you a millionaire so put your concerns where there are needed... Where ever that may be and stay off peoples back about who & what they do with the money they take in..
