OK, simple solution. If they didn't reserve a booth space and pay in advance like the other exhibitors, then stop them from street peddling. It's a festival, not a revival, nor a regisered protest again other religions. People like this act like they have to make religious decisions for everyone else. If they are wanting to exhibit, then get a booth, build a display, nail the crosses down to where no one can claim them to use as a weapon. Quietly pass out their litature to those who are interested and stop making a traveling circus at a festival where other exhibitors have paid $100 or more to exibit. They're acting like privledged bums to those who are trying to work hard to earn a living or partial living by working with their God given talents and skills. If they don't comply, arrest them for public disturbance.

Although I do not agree with people screaming on the street corners, these peoples right to freedom of speech was infringed upon and the organizers of the morganton festival were totally out of place. I sincerly hope that word of this gets out to all the surrounding communities and this is beginning of the demise of Mel Cohen and downtown Morganton. What a disgrace they all are, from the green shirts to the police force. Disgusting!!

As a born again Christian, I doubt I will be shopping in Morganton anymore. If my Lord isn't welcome, then me and my money isn't either.

Your lord and your money have something in common - neither of them exist!

Exactly , they either abide by the rules like everyone else or they face the consequences like every one else. Being religious does not give them a free pass.

not debating with you. Just ask Him for yourself when you die of old age.(I am speaking a blessing over you if you have enough sense to receive it) Hopefully between now and that time, you'll find out by meeting Him personally.

The money remark I find funny. Even people who have worked all their lives and invested nicely in their 401K's have been taken down in assets. I doubt that you are very financially rich either.
Regardless,$1 can make or break a place operating in the red.

Oh look Christians pissed off because they were not allowed to skirt the law and ruin other peoples day. Get over it scumbags, no one wants to hear you tell everyone how they are going to hell if they dont bow down and kiss your arses. People gathered at that festival to have a good time and the vendors paid their permits what makes you a$$hats think you are exempt from following the rules, you already get out of paying taxes. I never shop in Morganton but if I hear you knuckle dragging morons boycott the place I will shop there everyday. I hope the Police use tear gas and German Sheppards on you all next time.

The Lord is there whether he is welcome or not. You call yourself born again, but you have a pi$$ poured attitude. What do you have to fear? Go there, shop there, take the Lord with you and set an example.

Yes sir, take your money to morganton and support a drunk mayor and the bobble head woman in the green shirt that thinks you should be arrested for practicing what our constitution has promised us. Downtown morganton is after your money and could care less about you if you don't have any. Let's all gather on the square and set forth an example like the gas man has, how fitting that would be.

gas them, huh? Nazi much? I do believe that the Constitution of the United States of America states that we have the freedom to assemble, the freedom of speech, the freedom to practice our perspective religions as we see fit, the freedom from the government forcing us to follow their religion of choice.

I don't recollect reading in that same document that in order to exercise my freedom of speech and/or my freedom to practice my religion as I see fit I must buy a booth at any city/town's venue
in order to do so. That is not free speech at all if a person has
to pay for the right to speak.

You don't know me to know who or what I am. You can blend in with the world and be buddies with sin all you want to-that's your choice.

You're the shining example of the persecution that Christians have had to endure. Muslims are protected from comments as this when people make comments towards them under the hate crime laws. If you were to make these comments towards the President, the CIA would be knocking on your door. If I were to dislocate your head from your shoulders and made you look like the bobble head woman if you ever had the nerve to make your comments in person, I would be arrested for assault. You should be even more upset than most over the actions of downtown morganton. You benefit greatly from the protection of the constitution by the way you're allowed freedom of speech. Even though you are a name calling coward that has no respect for others rights, you are still protected, unless you are in morganton.

Lmao at Christians claiming persecution when they have been the one single biggest example of ignorance and intolerance in this country. Christians have been responsible for trampling more peoples constitutional rights than any other group in this nations history. To be honest you have lost your hold and now you are feeling what you pushed on everyone else. While we are on the subject of rights I didn't see anyone of you standing up to that hate mongering preacher in Catawba County when he was having public protests over gays saying they should be fenced in and starved to death. His rights to act a fool was upheld even though it was technically hate speech which is not protected by the 1st amendment. Fact is im sure Morganton could care less if you all want to preach on the corner but only when someone else doesn't have the town reserved first. Wait your damn turn unless you're just afraid no one will show up. I think you all just wanted a captive audience and to screw up everyones good time.

Enjoy your right to free speech, even tho the hate within you is evident. How is a public street, funded by taxpayer dollars at a public event reserved by a group with a special belief or non belief? Want to see a fool? Find a mirror quick.

The raving idiots were not invited to the festival to perform, nor did they share a part of buying a booth to confine their performance to. If this is allowed, then every honky bs that wants to display their opinions, right or wrong will be there probably burning crosses or no teling what. The immigrant pilgrims came to the US for religious freedom, ie the privacy of not being forced into contributions, taxes, or forced teachings of "the church". In their case the Church of England ruled them and taxed them and forced them to bend to their needs. In other words, they came here for freedom from "the church". At the time they arrived the main spiritual beliefs were from the Native Americans who came here from Asia and blended old traditions with a new country. You mention Mel Cohen, so OK, did you see any of the Jewish groups down there wandering through the crowds with big blue stars or Israeli flags disturbing the peace, threatening hell, or begging for money. In other words, if it isn't juried and planned into the festival by a group of festival planners, it does not belong there. Simple as that. They have a church, they should go there.
