Just so everyone knows I work at western so I m kinda in the loop on the thinking of closing us down. The reason why simply comes down to money. It costs $29,000 a year to keep someone in prison. It cost less tthan$5000 to put someone on probation PR parole for a year. Therefore the governor sees it cheaper to put criminals on probation or parole. But what happens when these violent criminals stay on the streets. The crime rate will increase. Probation doesn't work for most people. Most former inmates return to prison. In fact 75% come back. So if we put these people on parole they will continue to commit crimes. Look up the "justice reinvestment act". It explain about decreasing the prison population through probation and parole.BTW probation officers are being told not violate someone's probation/parole unless they commit a violent crime.

If we would just legalize marijuana and quit acting like its crack we could let half of this country out of prison .
AND THATS THE TRUTH .
29000 a year and im willing to bet half of the "Prisoners" are there on marijuana charges its stupid .
ive smoke pot for 20+ years , everyone I know smoke pot . ive smoked with doctors , lawyers , parole officers you name . everybody smokes pot .
*** and looks at the news today...The Olympics are gonna start testing for marijuana only for the day of or maybe the day before events AND THATS HUGE NEWS ..
what it means is the biggest most well respected athletic program is basically giving up on marijuana testing .
The whole legalization thing is picking up speed .
shouldn't be long before pro baseball , football , hockey , UFC etc follow suit .
its exciting to watch all this news everyday and sit back and watch it all develop .
I didn't think it would be in our lifetime .
***Legislation Announced To Legalize Marijuana In New York
With 29 electoral votes New York is the third largest in the country behind California and Texas, if NY legalizes, it will be a huge turning point in the movement. If California did it at the same time, it would be game over.
im sick and tired of seeing the prisons full of potheads . its a waste of our tax payer money and a slap in the publics face .
Just free the weed , which it will be soon very soon this train is starting to pick up speed and half the people in prison can go home.
Potheads are not violent offenders . They are actually the opposite .
Of course that means a lot of " Officers " would be laid off or would actually have to go catch real criminals if weed was legal .
Just my 2 cents!

Spoken like a true pothead. believe it or not, not everyone smokes pot and not everyone thinks it should be legal. Only those who smoke it do. I m sure crackheadscrack heads think crack should be legal. Herion addicts think it should be legal. Child molesters think child molesting should be legal. Legalize one, legalize all. There has to be a line drawn somewhere.

See , I bring up valid points . Proof of research , Provide links to polls of what the majority of Americans believe .
52% of Americans are now IN FAVOR of legalizing marijuana .
For you to even compare marijuana to Heroin or cocaine shows how stupid you really are lol .
The fact is Marijuana will be legal in less than 5 years . Its already legal in 20 states and more are pushing for it today.
Your whole reply to my write-up was " Spoken like a true pothead" ? Really ? it seems this pothead has more intelligence , proven points and statistics to back up what I say .
Your just full of bologna bub and people like you are in the minority now times are a changing just deal with it .
Prohibition is a shame and a cost of taxpayers money that in the billions each year . pot isn't going away . People like you are the reason this country is in the shape it in!
you sound about as stupid as the head of the DEA last summer when Congressman Cohan ate her for lunch on this subject .
