Hwy 90 that traverses through Colletsville on into Edgemont has about 15 miles of the last ONLY unpaved Highway in NC. Bikers, Cyclist, sightseers and travel the paved part. I would love to see the rest of this terrific winding road paved, it would encompass Staircase Mountain and complete a cool loop that could include Brown Mountain Beach Road. I've heard ever excuse under the sun about "right of way" not enough residents to serve..... People are coming up here anyway but if it was paved it would be one of the treasures of Caldwell County and a destination for for folks that like NC Foothills. Call your representatives.....Let's Pave Staircase!

WWW.whitehouse.gov . then find the online submission form they get things going. These idiots around here will not. Then write to Governor Pat McCrory, then complete an online form to the NC Divisions of Highways. And NCDOT and complete the form. You must do each one so the higher up the ladder can step in and take over. It's like we still live in 1945 with dirt roads. Geez. Are there any churches on the roadway if so, they have a statute stating they have first priority to have a paved roadway. Hope it helps.

I hope the family of Jason Braswell seeks a suit against CCSO. First, if you know them tell them not to even fool with Respess as Respess was the atty to Clark and of same party of Jones. Go talk to Atty Lisa Dubs. She is about to hit them with a matter of mine against a deputy, she would really be of great help to this family. See, Jones bought BMW and 4 other sleep around non officers vehicles to drive with county funds, but can't afford to repair or order a cheap replacement camera for the cells. Skeleton crews on Holiday weekends or any for that matter. Tell the family another incident happened 1 year ago to the day from this poor child's hanging....Atty Dubs would be mighty interested in speaking to you. What happened to Jason didn't have to happen. If Jones can spend Money on cars for the Swingers, he could have ordered replacement parts off eBay to have working Cameras. I am praying for this family.

I agree with you. But the sad part is that comment sounds like one angry deputy comment.

Fact is the people that are from that area living there now and family of know that paving it would mess the place up its just fine the way it is !! The once in awhile visitors to the area are the only ones that want pavement. So call who ya need to but I know for a fact it's not gonna happen for a long time !!

A cry for help???
For Christ sake lady he was locked up in jail for stealing.
If he wanted help he should have asked for it BEFORE he got caught. If he needed HELP why the hell didn't you bail him out and get him some HELP??? Let me guess because you thought that after he had done whatever the hell he wanted to do for so long that it was now SOMEBODY ELSE'S place to fix it for him for you. It's sad what happened but it's NOBODY'S fault but his.

What in the world is wrong with people. Yes he stole but who hasn't sinned. Maybe if people would show more compassion toward each other this world wouldn't be such a hell hole to live in. My thoughts and prayers are with this young mans family.

The CCSO was informed that he my try suicide and was asked to keep an eye on him. As you can see they obviously did not do that.

You're probably right they won't, my contention is the dust, potholes, is rough on residents cars over time when you travel them everyday to work or out to shop for groceries. The roads just done close to Anthony Creek are beautiful and super nice to travel on, I'll never see how that could be a bad thing. People are going to come anyway, the roads aren't going to stop them it only makes the gravel roads worse and more maintenance.

I'm typing this real slow so maybe you can understand what it means. It's a JAIL not a psych ward or a daycare center. They don't have the manpower nor should they to put an officer with him 24/7/365. If you knew he was suicidal why didn't you have him committed to a mental institution before he went to jail??? Let me guess You thought somebody else should do it for you and him. Was he suicidal before he got CAUGHT or was this just his reaction to having to face up to the consequences of being a thief???

Alright then Mr Darwin since he sinned and doesn't deserve to be treated with compassion then I know you have sinned so you deserve whatever bad comes to you. Cause I know you have some dirt to dig up too!

What part of my post didn't you understand? Because your reply never touched on anything I said. I never posted anything about sin. What I posted about was CRIME AND PUNISHMENT. Was it the part about it not being the jailers fault that they don't have the manpower to assign an officer to stay with him 24/7/365 just in case he decides it would be easier to kill himself than to pay for his crimes, or was it the part about you saying that you knew that he was suicidal and never bailed him out or tried to get help for him??? Did this guy not have enough common sense to realize that the path he had chosen was eventually going to lead him to a long stay in a jail or a prison if he was lucky enough to get caught before he kicked in a door one day and a home owner shot him dead in his tracks??? Before you get all sanctimonious and start your sermon about having compassion for others, first tell me where was his compassion for others when he was stealing the things they worked for??? I hate that the guy hung himself but it's on him it was his decision that he would rather die than face his punishment and get a job and get his life back on track.

Do you remember how Clark and Jones always spewed out of their mouths....

"The Sheriff is responsible for ALL things that happen at the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office, that is the way it is"..Of course, there is a different option for your term......

Should have known to have someone watching him and didn't....Sometimes education isnt as important as experience...

Words said about others always seem to come back and bite you in the butt!

Accept the responsibility...You wanted the position - LIVE WITH IT! You cant pick and choose what you are going to be responsible for because of your OWN words have condemned you.....

Prayers for the family of this young man.....

last I remember suspects are innocent until proven guilty. With that said I think the CCSD is required to provide " reasonable" protection for inmates. I agree they do not have the resources to babysit each person in custody. I doubt the CCSD has the option of "suicide watch" based on third party info. If the situation was as described, then a pysch eval should have been pursued, but families of probably 50% of those in custody feel their relative is suicidal so making the decision of which threats are real complicate this situation even more. I feel for the families loss but until more details are made available it is really tough to say if the CCSD was negligent or not.

if i had the money i would have gotten him out but not everyone in this world is rich and just because he was in jail doesnt mean he was a bad person and dont talk to me about stealing i had someone kick my front door in and come in and rob me while i was home this man worked hard all his life and raised his son by himself was a football coach for his son he got hurt in a wrestling match and they put him on pain pills but he still managed to work and raise his son when he hit bottom he lost his home he stayed with me awhile then he got a girlffriend and moved in with her that worked for awhile when they split he came back to stay with me then left again when his son was ten years old jason let his mom have him for the weekend and she filed papers against him remember the amber alert that was him his son loves him so much you could nevr imange so dont be so easy to judge people and had the cameras at the jail been workind maybe this wouldnt have happened somethhing like this could happen to annyone at anytime so instead of sending nasty comments maybe you should be praying for him
