PSO, why don't you investigate your own police force? Plenty of dirty cops to catch, or are they too smart for you with their 11th grade education?
Because this forum isn't about dirty cops. If you want to start one, I'll be more than happy to discuss them with you. And for every one you can prove is "dirty" I'll show you ten more who honestly put their lives in danger for the public every time they go on duty. And please, in the future try to keep your comments mature. The "are they too smart for you with their 11th grade education" crack is uncalled for. We can have a discussion without it getting personal. At least an adult can.

Bravo PSO! In my youth I was one of the worst offenders of driving under the influence with total disregard for the safety of myself and those around me. I wager everyone that reads topix knows someone or a family who has died from an accident involving an intoxicated driver. I had to lose a close friend to see the light. You can have a cocktail with your meal, just know you don't have to be intoxicated to have a good time. Blaming the police for doing their duty only masks a bigger problem. Be responsible for your actions, if you drink away from home always have an alternative plan for getting home safely.

yes, some staff were reported spitting in the pso's food. They were found not guilty though, it's still funny. I eat only at home now!

Even with Ham's shutting down there'll never be a shortage of drunk drivers in this town. They were here before Ham's, and I have every reason to believe they'll be here afterwards. Believe it or not, I really wish it wasn't so. I wish that arresting a drunk driver was a seldom occurance. Do you people think that we actually like spending at least one or two hours with a belligerent drunk who can't for the life of him understand why we are pickong on him just because his B.A.C. is two or three times the legal limit? How about the one or two hours of paperwork to follow, not to mention making sure every piece of paper gets to where it needs to go. Then of course, there's the joys of courts, dealing with defense attorney's whose soul duty and job is to find that one teeny tiny mistake so there client can walk, then go out and celebrate with a few beers.
And here's something else to think about. We get paid exactly the same whether we arrest a hundred drunk drivers, or not a single one. The only reason we do what we do, going out there and patrolling the streets, is because we take pride in our jobs and take our resonsibility of ensuring the safety of the public seriously. We dont' want people to drink and drive, because quite frankly, it would make our jobs a heck of a lot easier if they didn't.

I agree that if a drunk driver causes a fatal accident they should be prosecuted as a first degree murderer. There should be no loopholes allowed to where a person with money can buy their way out of being prosecuted.Good luck with your endeavor.I hope you catch all of them.

Oh, i do dearly long for the good old days of me youth when a young man could quite freely go out on the town and get wall-eyed dee-runk and still drive his lovely young (but pissed) girlfriend home after puking in the bushes and punching out his best friend. Yes, yes, those were the good old days when even if you got pulled over by our trusty boys in blue and there was vomit running down the side of the drivers door cause you were too busy to pull over and hurl, your friendly police officer would just follow you home cause he knowed yer daddy or mom. Or maybe cause he wanted to nail yer extremely pissed girlfriend after he got you safely tucked in. Either way, everybody was happy. Except maybe the owner of the 4 cars you sideswiped earlier in the evening.
Yes, them were truly the days and what the hey, we almost never killed anybody anyways. Almost never. Nobody important anyways. Except maybe for that time with the old man. Oh yeah, and then there was the blind guy. Oh, and I nearly forgot little Jimmy on his bike doing his paper route. My paper was never on time after that. Too bad. I hate it when my paper's late. Makes me want to pitch a mean blind dee-runk just for old times sake.
Better watch out, I just loves to drive on the back in the good old days. YeeeHaa..
I believe this guy has a plan!

I wholeheartedly agree with PSO. Those of you who feel so invincible after drinking your liquid courage, or whatever "high" it gives you, should know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a call about someone dying from a car accident, whether they are passengers, other drivers or bystanders when the car driven by he/she who thinks "just one won't hurt" or "one more" or...I ate steak, my metabolism won't process the don't know whose life you can end just by wanting to "have a good time". Laws were made for reasons, sometimes you should use the brain God gave you for more than figuring out what drink you need to order next.
(Thanks to all the PSO's, SO's, CO's that do such outstanding jobs each and every day and don't get the recognition-or pay-but believe they are making a difference.)

They just came out with a study that shows that drivers using cell phones cause more accidents than drinking.

POlice sit inside hams and watch people have drinks, then follow them outside and telephones another cop in the church parking lot to arrest them. Is this not entrapment or is this the only way burke county sheriffs can catch someone?
yes its entrapment
