I've lived in a trailer park for 12 years. No murders or tornados have occurred there. Violence and severe weather are not controlled by the type of structure in which one lives.

Given the usual crowd that posts here, I mildly surprised that no one praised the guy who shot Charlie, and adamently advocate that each trailer should have a firearm for just such an occasion. I guess the NRA'ers are on summer vacation.

wineman (or is it whineman):

It's actually a VERY good thing that there was somebody there with a firearm to end this situation. Let's face it....guns will find there way into the hands of criminals with all the gun control we can legislate...after all, only the law abiding gun owners have to follow the rules. If somebody had not been there to stop this man, how many could he have killed ? In all of the mass shootings in this country, it is the locations in which an armed citizen or police officer (either on or off duty) was at the scene and able to end the killing. I have 3 daughters in school and would feel MUCH more comfortable if I knew that a police officer or trained faculty had firearms and were able to stop a shooter on a school campus (elementary, middle, high school, or college).

I wish that we didn't have this dillema to deal with in our society. HOWEVER, the violence is here. To stick our head in the sand and "wish it away" is senseless. Let's look at the reason WHY individuals want to pick up a gun and shoot their classmates or neighbors. When we were young, we would carry a gun to school in order to shoot dinner for Mom to cook when we got there. We NEVER had the urge to take that gun and shoot our teachers, fellow students, etc. What has changed over the past 20 or 30 years ? Have the guns gotten more violent ? Have they leaped out of their cases or off the gun racks and started shooting up our schools ? Could it ACTUALLY be something that our kids are now subjected to through media, television, movies, or video games ? Naah...that would be politically incorrect to think about...and besides...that would be against our good neighbors' in Hollywood freedom of expression and speech !!! God help us all !!!!!!!!!

I think the world would be a better place if every trailer were required by law to have one firearm for every two occupants.

As an NRA Life Member, that was an excellent response. It is hard to get some to understand that it is not the firearm but the person behind it. I agree not every idiot should have a firearm, but the bombardment of violence that our children are exposed to and the lax (liberal) attitudes toward enforcement of those that break the law using firearms, contributes to the break down. The removal of firearms from this society is a fantasy. An effort to confiscate the known firearms in this country from legal gun owners would only make legal citizens criminals, and probably start the next revolution, aside from being an impossible task. If we are going to call for the removal of all firearms because of the actions of the few, we would have to use the same logic when cars, planes(9-11), household knives,or any other instrument used to perpetrate a murder is involved.

Thanks to my handgun, I protected a woman from her ex-husband that was reaching for his gun and threating to shoot her. I keep my guns loaded at all times.

Just so ya know....Charlie Jackson did NOT live in a mobile home, he lived in a house....the same house where his widow still resides today.
His son Charlie Jr. was an NRA member.
Thing is there are people you just don't cross and Charlie was one of them. If you knew him, then you would know that! Charlie was a helluva good man and he died standing up for what he believed in!
Would you?
