TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13
is an historic, community-wide day of online giving where you can support local
nonprofits with the click of a button!
Below, four women give you four reasons to choose The Pink Ribbon Place breast cancer resource center for your donation.
Reason 1. We are the place that cares.
Last month a survivor came in to be fitted for a prosthesis and proper bra for the first time. She is a 30-year survivor but she felt like this was the first time someone cared about her after the surgery. She said, "I feel like a complete new woman!"
Reason 2. Early detection saves lives.
Elizabeth, mother of four, had pain and a lump in her left breast when she was only 24. Her doctor told her she was too young to have cancer and dismissed her concerns. We referred her for tests that resulted in a diagnosis of breast cancer, then navigated her through treatment. Because the cancer was detected in time she has gone from cancer victim to cancer survivor. Elizabeth says, "All I could think of was that I wanted to live for my daughters."
Reason 3. We relieve the fear and loneliness.
Sasha is a Middle Eastern woman with no female relatives in this country. Because discussion of female issues, especially regarding the breast, is taboo in her culture, she felt alone and frightened as she went through breast cancer treatment. She was referred to one of the women in our Survivor Network, who became her friend and confidante through the procedures, relieving her fear and loneliness.
Reason 4. We provide peace of mind.
Marcia came in because her mother and one older sister had died of breast cancer, and her other older sister is a breast cancer survivor. We provided her with an ultrasound, which to her great relief was negative. Because of the fear and sadness from the loss of her mother and sister, she has been seeing our clinical therapist at no cost to her and has found a way to cope with the emotional stress.
