Bill would end birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants | Local News

May 31, 2010 Full story: www.pe.com 23

As the national immigration debate rages on, one Southern California congressman is challenging the basic notion that anyone born in the United States should be granted citizenship.

Rep. Gary Miller, R-Diamond Bar, is pushing legislation that would end birthright citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants.

Miller also is taking aim at the so-called "birth tourism" industry, which arranges the travel and hospitalization of non-Americans who wish to have their babies on U.S. soil for the purpose of acquiring citizenship for them.

When a student, born here in California to illegal immigrant parents, stands before me each morning refusing to pledge allegiance to our flag, and I cannot say a word to him/her about it, I get so frustrated I want to shout! When those same students provide me with a creative writing assignment that belittles America and Americans and praises foreigners (primarily Mexicans) in this country, and I can't say anything about it, I want to shout! When a student tells me that his race is superior and that's just how it is, and I can't say anything in response, I want to shout! Yeah, take away automatic birth citizenship and maybe, just maybe they will appreciate our way of life a little more. What I want to shout is the following, "If Mexico is so great, why did your dumb ass parents come here and why do they stay?".

The repeal of birhright citizenship can't end soon enough to suit me. That was never the intent of the fourteenth amendment and has been disastrous for this country.

HR3938 will do just that. It's not in effect already because it was introduced in late 2005. Republicans Lost Control of Congress in 2006.

One of the top 10 most difficult jobs in America today is the teacher. It is my opinion and I feel that they are used as "glorified" baby sitters! Under paid, and overwhelmed with the demands of the Federal and States demands on education. I agree with this teacher. I see nothing of US history in schools, only "political history"!
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Emma Lazarus, 1883
I feel this says it all. We have gone away from this in our country. We are not a nation that welcomes freeloaders, but a nation that welcomes hard workers who want a better way of life and are willing to "add" our great nation instead of taking from what it offers. If you were born in Mexico and now are a citzen, then you are truly a Mexican-American, the same for Poland, Italian etc...If you are born in American, than you are an American period! That is how our laws are written, but your parents who came here "illegally" will have to go back to whatever country they came from! Come here, to the land of opportunity, legally, and there may be a happy ending ever after.

When a student tells you that his/her race is "superior", is that not classified as "racist" which should be actionable? When any student suggests that another student is inferior due to his/her race, isn't that grounds for a reprimand? Sometimes it is wise to remain silent, however there are other times when it is foolish to remain silent as it gives the appearance of tacit agreement.

Think about it.

Would that not depend on the context of the play? In a play about any historical event, a certain portion of the actors would have to be the villain, right? I wasn't referring to acting or a play. My earlier post was in regards to classroom activity. Now if certain students donned KKK robes in class, then your argument might be valid.

Birthright citizenship should have been stopped decades ago and it would have been if our congresscrooks weren't so busy taking bribes from Big Business in exchange for supporting illegals.

This was a "play"...a RE-enactment put on by students.
MSNBC and other Liberals only tell...
"Child allowed to dawn kkk robes in class" and let it go at that.
That's the problem with many Liberals, some conservatives too but Liberals have a monopoly on "spin".
No,some kid did NOT just mosey on into class wearing a god-damned kkk outfit and the teacher was ok with it.
It was in a play.

There is no more slavery or "children of slaves"
The XIVth amendment doesn't need to be revised or altered,it needs to GO PERIOD!!! Repeal the god-damned XIVth amendment!!!!

That is nothing more than a "loop-hole" for Liberals who advocate "open borders". Close the f**king door already!!!

I kind of figured that one out...lol I have never read a story that indicated students coming to school in KKK robes. In the context of a play and/or re-enactment of history, yes, some students get to play the "bad guy".

But, going back to the original post I commented on, seems that teacher is "afraid" to speak out when our Country and/or our Flag is disrespected. That's a shame. But the worst part is allowing any "race" to feel superior in the classroom to another "race". That should never be allowed and I don't care which "race" starts it.

You just need to give a speech at UCLA on your feelings. After all they let another teacher speak his mind and he's still teaching even though he advocated sedition..

Excuse me? Did it ever occur to you the reason they don't pledge allegiance to the flag is because of their religious views? A Jehova's Witness will not pledge allegiance, vote, register in the military, etc. because of their religion, so before you insert your foot in your mouth, don't automatically assume it's because of other reasons! I would hate for any of my children to have a racist teacher like yourself!

Well normally teachers in California know the status of their pupils families, maybe you shouldn't assume that the teacher doesn't know it. Nor should you assume the teachers reasoning is based on racism, and the rule of law, and devotions to ones country.

Miller's bill would lead to an entire class of American-born people who would be citizens of nowhere, council spokeswoman Lisa Navarrete said.

Under Mexican law children born to Mexican nationals are Mexican citizens no matter where they are born so they would not be citizens of nowhere unless she considers Mexico nowhere.
