As long as the employees are good at thier job, it dosent matter what they look like. If u don't like to look at them...there is a simple solution...don't go there!

Is that even legal? To not hire you because you were pregnant?

No it's not but It wasn't worth it. I went to try to get a job at McDoogals when it was here and they told me being a single mother I wasn't reliable enough for them so they wasn't going to hire me...

Wow I didn't think that was legal. Guess I was wrong. Its a sleazy place anyway. I hope you found something.

well shoney's is the worst place to work. I worked there years ago they treat there workers with NO respect and expect you to work for hours with no breaks. nasty place as well. i have seen the cooks drop the food on the floor and pick it up and serve it. I am sure it's not much better with Hester as the manager she just walks around thinking she is something and she is not. probably hung over from the night before

I'm not sure why someone decided to resurrect this old thread today, but since they did I'll add my 2 cents.
I couldn't agree with you more. My son worked there briefly years back when he was starting college. He was appalled at the working conditions, the attitude of the management and what was being served to customers. After witnessing what was going on and despite the fact that he wanted a job, he quit after about 2 weeks. He'd seen enough. I couldn't hardly believe this, but the poor employees who were to scrape the food off the used dishes into the garbage had to do so using their bare hands. They were not allowed to use a scraper of any type or to wear gloves. That is just nasty.
To this day he absolutely will not eat anything that was prepared and served in that restaurant. And after hearing the first-hand accounts from people we know that have worked there besides my son, we have no desire to eat there either. Maybe things have changed in these past years. But we won't be there to know.
Totally Agree

I worked there a few years ago as well. Some of the waitresses came in with dirty, wrinkled shirts where they had partied all night and on top of that they had dirt under their fingernails. Management did not care. I did bring it to their attention. I did take off one Friday night because I was sick, and Ms. Hester, the wonderful manager, decided she did not need me. I told the owner Wally and you know what, he was two faced with me. I could come back to my job if I wanted. Well, I was working it as a second job any way and I really did not want to be part of a poorly managed unsanitary restaurant. There was literally mold growing around the faucets in kitchen area and we had to save food from the salad bar that was literally old and nasty. To top it off, the bathroom floor was greasy and smelled like grease because they used the same mop for bathroom and kitchen. That is nasty. How on earth they pass inspections, it's beyond me.
Well

Just walk in for an interview with your pants in your t.at and in your crack, and you will probably be hired. Look at Wally's two wonderful ones, Melissa and Hester. It's not the brains, it must be the t.at showing for whatever that is worth. 4671

I worked there long ago and for awhile. Some of the things you have said here have a ring of truth but like most good lies it's just a ring and not the whole truth. Gloves have always been available to any/everyone that is working, it's a law and they have not been cited for not having them during an inspection. They do expect you to work and maybe work long hours if they are busy, but go figure, it's a JOB. If you work at a food service establishment you will find out very quickly that you have to work and often work hard for money that never seems to be enough. If a person actually observed a cook picking up food from the floor and didn't do anything then THAT PERSON is as nasty as the cook and the extablishment is not to blame, imo. To the young lady that wanted to be employed at Shoney's, how far along were you? The reason I ask is simple. As an employeer I would not want to hire someone knowing that I am going to spend money on them to train them and when I begin to regain that money from the service they provide they are going to need maternity leave soon seems like a waste of time when I need someone. That may sound harsh but it's the truth. As to the person that "called in sick" on a Friday night, did you give them a doctors excuse? I mean, you were sick right? You did visit a clinic or doctor right?
