Have you ever worked at Horizon Village or Pathways.? My friend got fired for going over the bosses head over verbal abuse by a staff, on the resident's and herself. The lady is a nut, yells all day, talks about drugs in her family, jail, and eats lunches with the bosses. Pills disappearing. She has never been to a place where abuse is better than being a good person. I guess it don't hurt to be bosses friend.

work place infighting is something I have never been able to survive, there is always someone that wants to get rid of "that new person" so their friend can get a job, or they feel threatened they will get promoted before them, so they try to trip them up. It gets pretty cut throat out there and its all over some crappy underpaid job where your soul has little worth to them that have sold theirs for dross (your silver has turned to dross).

Pathways could do better, I'd say they work the system as much as their staff does; somehow some folks do get some benefit from them, some do like them for their services.

I am seriously looking at giving up and see what life on welfare or a crazy check is like. IF Obama gets elected we will be force into universal health care anyway, so why not, working is such a raw deal anyway, unless you are management and stress out by heart attack at 55 and die with a big enshorance payoff for the wife and young en's

Several of us, have called different agencies to report fraud, and abuse. Our concern is on the resident;s, One of the bosses owes the New Pizza Place downtown. He is that rich. He is the one dismiss my friend , because she tried to get help from the abuser. With 12 witness at a meeting, when the abuser went off on her, she still wasn't fired. She told she knows to much on the bosses. How sad. She is seeking free help on on sexharness

I do know that Pathways has finally had to pony up and fire one of their supervisors lately for stealing and fraud. Seems like Pathways is just another part of our local problem not part of the cure. They have to create more problems to create the statistics that seemingly promotes our need for them. The feds need to investigate their books very closely, I've heard inside sources say they depend on some funky procedures to keep the grant money rolling in.

Used to work there. most people were ok to work with when it was just the two of you working together. It was very gossipy, and there was alot of back stabbing. I agree with the comment about trying to get new employees fired to get someone that they wanted hired. don't know anything about the $$$ comments. Some of the residents were sweet and precious. That's why I stuck it out for a while. I'm not paranoid, but when everyone stops talking when you enter the room, it's pretty uncomfortable. Strict rules and regs were a hassle! Unless something has changed recently, you'll starve on the salary. Who got fired? anyone know?

ps... no signs of any abuse to residents by any staff. A couple of employees had been there so long they were burned out and not so tolerant of others. Leave problems at home, don't be b!tchy to others that are kindhearted and trying to help residents.

How can you truly help people if your staff is screwed up? Its sad really we need the help for these folks. Maybe they (Pathways ect..) need to clean house.

Uhm I currently work at Pathways. And I really like my job and the people that I work with. We do not get paid nearly enough for what we do there and have to put up with there. We deal with very emotionally and mentally unstable people everyday. I have seen people try to throw themself down the stairs while being held by police officers. I have seen people have psychotic breaks, scream, yell and try to hit people. Hell we have had children kicking, hitting and spitting on staff, cussing them and saying things that I couldnt imagine saying to an adult when I was a child. We have seen people and CHILDREN throw chairs and everything else across rooms. And we CANT do a thing about it. I, being a girl of a rather small stature, have been left in offices alone with clients and have felt very uncomfortable. I have sat there the entire time in defense mode waiting on them to get up and just throw me across the room.
We have people coming in there telling us they want to rape babies, they want to kill themselves or other people and everything else. The things that we see and hear in that office are sometimes some of the worst things you can imagine hearing. You hear people say these things with no remorse and no sympathy and you have to take that in and deal with it. We try our best to help everyone that walks in that door. The therapist with skip lunch, work 11 hr days and only get paid for 37.5 hrs a week. Yep thats right, they can work 50 hrs and get paid for 37.5. They have to listen to children tell stories about how daddy touched them in their bad spot. Now tell me, how many of you can hear that stuff and completely shrug that off? That is a daily thing for most there though.

I do agree that there are a lot of people that come in there and are complete pieces of shit, but that is anywhere that you go. Who come there just long enough to try to get their disability check and then they disappear. But remember, its not up to us who gets SSI and who doesnt. That is up to Social Security.

The people that work there are great people and they do the best they can for what they do.

PW STAFF, working 50 hours and payiny 37.5 is illegal did you not know that? The wage and labor board should do something about that. Has that been reported? If not it should be. I looked into working there once but it was too high school clickie my friend works here so... you know that kind of stuff. Some of the workers(big wigs too) are as bad as the clients in my opinion. So how can Pathways be helpful. I just think a good house cleaning is in order. I am sure Pathways has some GREAT folks working there but burn out in these types of jobs is common and for self preservation they gotta move on.

It's the same way at the adt or workshop up there by big 4. I have a friend that works for Pathways as a case worker. They said that the supervisor there is having an affair with one of her staff. You talk about cleaning house, something should be done. How are the clients supposed to learn life skills when that is going on. I think it's shameful. I was told that she is a ministers wife to beat all.

I heard the same thing. Also that they feel around on each other in front of the retarted people. Someone needs to put a stop to it. That is just uncalled for. Can't they wait till after work to do the nasty? sick sick sick
