Can you believe we are getting a summer collegiate baseball team in Morehead? Too bad we have a loser in charge. Take a look at the past Legion coach and you'll figure it out. No way this will work here. It has potential to be a good thing but not under the current arrangement. Don't get too excited until Maggard is NOT involved!

Brad is a former HS coach and college player. He can relate to the players. He will be ok.

Heard that the League expects average attendance over 1000 per game. That's a stretch for Morehead.

The team is 6 and 2 and Coach Maggard is great, so is Coach Hall and Weaver. People need to get their facts straight before running their mouths. Coach put the whole program together and has the support of the GLSCL and Major League Baseball. Our team has some of the best talent in the NAIA and I'm glad to be part of it. These other poor dumb asses are either parents whose kids aren't good enough to play or players who suck and can't play and I know for a fact that Coach Maggard had nothing to do with Jr. Legion baseball. He and my uncle are good friends. You are are still pissed cause the Sr. Legion kicked your panty waisted asses last summer and you all ain't worth a shit. You'll never leave Morehead losers.

First of all, I do not regularly get on Topix because it is rumors and trash talk and gossip, but when one of my players tells me I am being outright slandered, then it's time to set the record straight. People from all over read the trash that's posted here so let's get the facts straight. Yes, we have a summer collegiate team. There is no "they" that put it together. I am the founder and franchise owner of it and did so through contacts I have established over the years with the Great Lakes League, Major League Baseball, friends I played AA baseball with and contacts through the Cincinnati Reds. Our roster includes players from colleges throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee, players that are looking to be seen by MLB scouts. After this initial season we will be fully franchised as a Major League Baseball training team. We have a varied schedule this summer and playing 47 games in 51 days. We are a 501c3 organization, charitable, tax exempt and non-profit, incorporated with a board of directors chosen to represent Eastern Kentucky (its businesses and people), Morehead Tourism, Morehead Recreation, Morehead State University, The City of Morehead, Rowan County businesses, the players (player reps.) and the team itself. We have a team attorney, physician, accountant, executive marketing director and treasurer. I, not "they", have done all this so when decisions are made it will be the board and myself who make them. Let's look at my experience as a high school coach. I coached along side Brad Hart as second assistant and head JV coach for 3 years. My official record after 3 years was 38-17-2. Although JV records are not kept by the state, I have no doubt Hart would verify that! I was asst. coach for Post 126 under Gene Ferguson for 1 year. Morehead's Legion team experienced a 5 year absence before we started it back. Our record was 21-17 that first season. Funding was provided by the Post but was not nearly enough so we ran fundraisers and received donations from our 14 county recruiting area and local businesses. If it had not been for my wife and I paying for the teams' hotel rooms for 2 nights in Louisville, we would not have gone to our district tournament that season. We put 1 player in a college program. The following season, Gene became the head coach for the newly formed Jr. Legion team and I took over as head coach of the Sr. team. The Sr. team was funded by the Post, fundraisers and donations and the Jr. team was given Post support but no money as per the Post's officials' decision. They had to raise their own money. Because of a squabble between Gene and the parents, much needed parent, paid, money was kept from them by their treasurer. Myself and the Legion treasurer fought to get that money back into their hands and I personally handed the Jr. Legion's new treasurer, Danny Cornett, a check for that money. I DID NOT TAKE JR. LEGION MONEY, THAT IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE! As head coach our second season we partnered with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, became a member of the Chamber of Commerce and put 3 young men in college baseball programs. I began working with the state commissioner of Legion baseball to bring the state Legion tournament to Morehead and was successful, that's why the state tournament will be held here this 2011 season after a 30 year absence. Concessions for the Jr's were run by Tammie McKinney and Michell Richmond. They inventoried their items and stored them away when we had concessions so no confusion took place. Items were photographed and inventoried before and again afterwards because we knew some idiot would say items were missing. If items were missing nothing was ever brought to our attention by those two. WE DID NOT TAKE CONCESSION ITEMS, THAT IS ANOTHER OUTRIGHT LIE! As far as paying bills and having a history with the Legion, "CHECK BOOK"!, we paid ALL of our bills and that is a matter of record to be viewed by the public since the Legion is also a 501c3 organization.

Let me tell you something centerfielder, if it wasn't for Maggard the legion team would have been non-existent after the first season. He is the one who busted his ass to get the money to continue. He is the one who has spent time away from his family doing what NO ONE, I repeat NO ONE at the legion would do. With the exception of Ollie Keeton who is sick with cancer and can't even see to drive. The rest of them were usually to drunk to get off the bar stool. John Maggard is in no way a loser and whoever you are, you must be a FORMER player who didn't have the kahunas to make it at this level to begin with.

It simply amazes me as to how twisted facts can get on this site. Do some of you people just make this up as you go along or what? Maggard has NOTHING to do with the Legion team now. And at least he is trying to do something good for the community instead of most of the stuffed shirts in this town. If they can't have their hands in the pot they don't want it here.

ast season the Sr. team was funded by the post and we held fundraisers and received donations to fund the season. We once again partnered with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, became a member of the Chamber of Commerce and after long negotiations with the United States Marine Corps, US and Kentucky Legislatures were given permission to support a USMC unit in Afghanistan. One of our players joined the Marines and to show support for him and our troops, we wore his unit patch on our sleeves. Something NEVER before done in the history of baseball, little league, legion, college, professional or otherwise. No one is allowed to wear a patch for a unit in combat and those patches cannot be found during that time, so this was a great accomplishment. We received national and state recognition for this and were featured in the Legionnaire Magazine. We received a letter of commendation from the Governor of Kentucky and The President of the United States. We had a great season and went to the state tournament for the first time in 25 years and placed 6th in the state. YES, the Jr legion won their state tournament but they did not have to qualify to go. Jr. legion teams attend their state tournaments without having to qualify for them. Nothing taken away from those guys because that is a great accomplishment too. The Sr. Legion team placed 9 young men into college baseball programs, more than any other Legion organization in the US or her provinces. If I am such a "loser" then I don't understand how all these things got accomplished and we received such outstanding recognition! Our final record was 21-14, 22-15 26-18 and overall for my stay as head coach for Post 126 was 69-47 with a 3rd place in districts our 2nd season and a 2nd place in districts our 3rd season. If memory serves me correctly, that's still a winning record. Excuse me, but I relate just fine to our players and my guys would do anything I asked them to do without hesitation. It amazes me how you all can hide behind fake names and make slanderous accusations but never reveal who you really are. That makes you COWARDS and LIARS. Come on say these things to my face instead of running around behind my back, COWARDS! If you think you know so much about the game or coaching then why aren't you out there doing what I am doing. Giving young men a chance to be someone great, giving back to the community that supports your kids or you. Instead you hide and gossip like old women, afraid to let the world know who you really are. If I find out who you are and find out you are slandering me then I will bring a lawsuit against you that Perry Mason couldn't help you with. Shut your mouth's and do something constructive with your lives LIARS! Just for your information, by the way, I played baseball in Middletown, Ohio, played against Don Hardin's state championship legion team and beat them, twice, was recruited by Southern Florida and played AA baseball out of Reading, Ohio. I have a BA and BS and 2 Master's degree's in Health, Physical Education and Recreation, Coaching, Sports Management and Secondary Education from Transy, MSU and UofL. My father and Don Hardin were best friends before my father passed away. Don was umpiring when Dad helped pitch MSU to win an OVC Championship-1961/62. He and Steve Hamilton played together along with Denny Doyle. Dad had been drafted by the Reds. If you all knew what you were talking about it would be different, but you're just a bunch of LIARS! Anything I did for Post 126 is a matter of public record and if you are being told otherwise, you are being lied to! If it weren't for my efforts and a few others, there would still be no Legion team in Morehead and no state tournament for you to walk into and no collegiate team here. I see no one else, especially the Legion, getting off their dead asses to do anything but lie and complain. WAKE UP!
I apologize to those who have offered support and good wishes and thank you for that. For the others..Get a life!
