Do you go to church? You could ask your pastor. Is Gateway the same as the foodstamp office? The foodstamp office might be able to help. Are you in good standing with your bank? You could ask for a personal loan. Do you get a paycheck? You could go to a pay-day loan place. I hope some of these ideas help.

Like you have never been down and out and needed some help? Is that what Jesus did? Spit on people when they were down? Have some compassion. You don't know her situation.

Have you tried contacting the electric company and asking for some kind of payment plan?$500 sounds like an awful lot for one month - especially if you're in an apartment - so I can't hep but wonder how many months worth of bills you've neglected. I'd also look into ways of reducing the amount of electricity you consume until you can get back on your feet. Unplug energy zappers when you're not using them.

Once you get this resolved, you really should have someone come take a look at your heat pump, because it sounds like you've got bigger problems than just one bill.

The fact that you waited until they served you a disconnect notice doesn't bode well for you. You should still ask them if they can work out a payment plan.

Someone upthread mentioned church. That's probably a fair place to ask for this kind of help. But only if you're a regular member. I wouldn't bother if you're an Easter/Christmas kind of family.

Your employer might also be able to help, depending on who it is. If it's a local/family business, their discretionary spending is more flexible. If it's something like MSU or the hospital, they probably won't be able to do much for you.

DO NOT go to a pay-day loan place. That'll just get you in more trouble than you're already in.

Good luck.

people may use a little common sense here to help on your electric bill. you can turn your heat thermostat back to a reasonable temp..i have rented to people and they have complained about the heat bill that was electric and in winters when I go to check for problems I'll ask to go inside and the occupants will have to have me wait till they get on their clothes beacause they go around inside with very few clothes and I can barely breath it is so hot its like being in an oven inside their house.use a little common sense man!woman!the electric companies are ripping us off but thank your politicions for that, they oversee the regulators but they just want to oversee how much money they can get not whats right for us.the politicins come first you know.o yall don't forget to vote for them they are looking out for themselves you know they need all the votes you suckers can give!
