It seems like the cancer rate is high in ths area,I guess it has nothing to do w/ a nuclear dump site here,4.7 million cubic feet of radioactive waste, the low levels of radiation only reach a 3 mile radius.Enjoy.

The Maxey Flats dump has NEVER been maintained as it should have been. No one really knows (residents) how much damage was done when that place came to be. Water and soil pollution beyond words happens there.

I visited that place and it is pretty out of control. I especially like when the security guards run to their truck and start chasing you. That was all I needed to know about it.

I grew up just a mile down the road from the Maxey Flat Disposal Site. That place has been horrible. My father worked there for many years and told me of the "experiments" they conducted on monkeys and would bury the carcasses in empty tubs to "stop contamination". The leak began from my understanding back in the late 1980's. Over the hill from Maxey Flat is many abandoned houses where families were forced to vacate. I have went into those now dilapitated homes and have seen furniture and toys that were left behind. I once found a journal that the last entry was dated June 7 1988. There was a family who lived there who had a child that was mentally disabled. They blamed it on the nuclear. From what I know they don't use the site for anything anymore. They have buried most of it. The still have guards and what not to keep people from nosing around (nice I wasn't making a sarcastic comment about you so don't take it as such) I lived there for 17 years (1991-2008) and luckly had no problems. They say that living on the Flat is the safest place to be because of the runoff. Well it's not. 3 of my neighbors passed away from some type of cancer. It is a horrible place, I have to agree there. But as I said they don't use it for anything anymore. They just try to keep it from leaking again, but I dont really think they even fixed the last one. But I agree with all of you it is a horrible place

You couldn't GIVE me a piece of property close to that site. It sits there and continues to posion whe land and water supplies and peoples health. I don't believe its regulated or up to code on anything. Thats probably why you were chased off, they don't need or want the community poking around and finding out the truth. One day it will come out and the people in this community will say THATS NOT NEWS we knew things were not right from the start. The cancers, the deformed animals born on farms. Maxey Flats Dump doesn't want anyone to see or know anything about them. And what about the workers? It would be interesting to know how their health is fairing.

Maxey Flat is said to be a low level nuclear waste dump, but in fact it is a dump for the waste products of alien space ships. Earth, being filled with people who post on topix forums about subject matters of a personal nature, is very entertaining for the aliens, because along with interstellar travel they also mastered etiquette and good manners, so they come to watch and laugh at our foibles, and of course need a place to dump their waste, just like the campers have to pull up to that little pipe in the driveway, and to the dumpsters...so that is what we are...a cesspool and dumpster for the advanced beings. Dont let it bother you...the only thing you can do is move.

The Buddha said, bye bye now, or something like that.

From what I understand they test the water and soil there yearly, but you know as well as I do that's not the case. I loved living there and miss it terribly. Anyway, there were few animals born with deformities. I once had a dog that was had a litter of pups and one pup had an extra toe. I know plenty of people who have worked there and they seem okay

Sorry to disappoint you, but there hasn't been and probably will never be a four headed child born. The radiation may cause birth defects and the only reason I say that may cause is because I was pregnant and gave birth to my child while living there and she's healthy. So far there haven't been any children born that have had any problems

I agree, but I tend to ignore them or call them out on it. It is obvious they know nothing of Maxey Flats and probably never will

I heard on 90.3FM MSPR a interview with a guy that wrote a book about Maxi Flats and he said they had a incinterator out there where they burned some of the Low level tridium laced materials and the reasoning was that it actually helped people FIGHT CANCER by stimulating their immune systems!? I heard the interview but cannot find it in their archives after looking several times FRONT PAGE with Chuck Maraz maybe he has it archived offline? For something that is suppose to be closed explain why the tarped area has increased over 25% in the last few years.

It was TONS of stuff that they burned way back in the 70's SPRING GROVE DAIRY was shut down in part due to contaminated milk that had tridium, how many grade schoolers DRANK that everyday through the 1970s? Dairy Farmers down stream in Fleming Co. had to be bought out and their farms abandoned but I thought that all occured in the late 1970s not the 1980s

Someone I used to know that worked in the medical field says that the medical statistics show a abnormal spike in weird cancers DID exist in people who lived and settled in the PLUME area BEFORE Maxi flats was put in AND they speculated, that could be the reason it was located where it is as they could say that any cancer was already occuring in that area and was not due to the "low level" TEMPORARY dump/holding facility. Some one else told me they were contracted to do some digging out there and some dirt fell away to reviel a lab module with dead bodies in it still in their air suits, might have been telling a lie, I do not know. I also heard there were jeeps buried out there from open air testing that was done out west until the mid 1960's (probably not true) Someone else told me contaminated tools were missing and likely glowing HOT to this day on some old man's workbench? might be true?
THere are sooo many rumours about Maxi flatts who knows what is true by the time you filter and sift the P.r. from the government. That 90.3 interview really spooked me as I grew up within a bird's flight range. Birds eat contaminated worms and can fly how far before they poop?

Good grief, I had no idea we had this so close! Why can't we do something like sue the heck outta somebody? How can anyone live there and not be scared. What is the radius of contamination now? How about animals that live close to their, like on the MSU farm?

Many people have tried to fight them and lost. As I mentioned earlier, A family who had no history of mental disability or any health issue became parents to a girl who was born with heart problems and was mentally unstable. The family lived over the hill from Maxey Flat and blamed the condition of their child on the runoff. They attempted to sue, but their case was thrown out of court blaming the childs health on "family genetics". The family had 3 other children after moving from there and are now grandparents and none beside their daughter had anything defects.

I remember when my Father worked there, he wasn't allowed to speak about anything that was done there and had told me about the experiments upon his quitting. The reason he quit was because they refused to acknowledge the runoff and would lie to the community when asked.

I wasn't scared to live there, in fact I enjoyed it and wish so much to be back. The contamination from my gathering didn't directly affect those who lived on the road, only those who were contaminated by the runoff. I remember being forbidden to use well water. As for the contamination radius, I am not too sure. I think they may have it cleaned up to a point of it not being considered a problem. Then again no one will ever know.

there is a different program that you can do Bird's Eye views of this place that has some older aerial photos mixed in from certain angles of view that show the black tarped area about 25% smaller and some of the buildings appear to have been moved back. IF you notice the transparent road overlay shows that the entrance road used to go much further in to the middle of the current field. This place is supposed to be close to any more dumping but it has increased in size in the last 20yrs by 25% by my estimate...

The tarped area was increased because it wasn't big enough to start with. Who got the idea to bury this stuff in a geologically unstable region that drains across half the U.S. I don't know, but it was because the land was cheap and we were too ignorant of what was going on to protest.
