Hurry and sign your kids up for the city youth football....

This winter over 45 kids went through a 6 week training camp.

This year should be one of the best ever.

The youth programs are well coached, the program has the support of the city, High School and College....

If you cant afford to pay the 35.00 for your child to play, let them know when you sign up and it will taken care of...Every kid that wants to play football wont be stopped because parents cant afford it....

Dont let your kids miss out on this experience,,,,,

I would prefer the youth football not be mentioned with high school football. Most of Rowans athletes quit playing football in high school because the team sucks. Everyone wants to be a back or receiver this year. The coach doesn't want to be here or he wouldn't have interviewed for the Mercer job. He said he turned it down, but the paper in Ashland said it was a mutual decision. To me that means the school didn't want him either. This year we will be lucky to to 5-6. Last year the teams we beat had won a total of 5 games between the 4 schools. Youth football has always had a winning record, but as they get older they lose interest due to the coaches.

I think everyone is in for a shock this year. I have watched practice, and this kids are ready,,,,their not deep, but
solid at every postion....
If coach Brown turned down Mercer, or it was their decision,,,doesnt matter,,,Mercer is one of the top jobs in the state, and too be considered is a honor.
For the first time in school history, the entire football program, seniors to 3 grade are on the same page and running the same plays...doing the same things,,,,
I dont know if this will lead to state titles soon, but if Rowan County stays on this path, good things will start to happen.

Guys the football program is a vital part of the community. This is something that kids will talk about when they are old and gray. Lets do all we can to support the kids and the coaches who VOLUNTEER their time to help with the community.

Hip Hip Hooray!! I'm a proud parent of a youth Football player. This is our second year and we absolutley love the coaching staff. They teach the kids so much more than plays. They learn responsibility, commitment, obiedience and self value. This is a very promising year for us, and the guys are proud of themselves and im proud of all of them!! Go Vikings!!!!!!!!! Go Bengals!!!!!!!!

Such a silly post! Just shows how little some people know about how a sports program is suppose to work. Note I said program & not Team, but you wouldn't know the difference. Just stay home & enjoy Friday night TV.

I have heard of several injuries lately from city league football, like broken wrists. I know that does occur in sports, but the physical ijuries of this sport are getting worse, sounds to me like. I personally don't like football, but to each his own. I just think the injuries are too much for such young ages.

If anyone cares to know both of the 5th and 6th grade youth football teams are undefeated as of right now as well as both middle school teams. I truly beleive football is making a comeback in Rowan County and it starts right here with youth football!!

Hats off to the coaches as well. They are volunteers, some with no children even playing on teams. It is a big commitment but it looks to be paying off!!

The thing I dont understand is why its called football. Except for that remarkable player a few years back, all the players have feet. Why isnt if feetball? That is better so I am going to call it feetball.

the feetball teams would be better if we had pig racing with greased pig contests for kindergarten and on up...maybe even preschool. For the high school team those big hog oinkers could be used for tackling dummies and tenderize the pork chops all at the same time. After all, the feetball itself is called a "pigskin".

a buddha said, why is a shoe called a shoe, or something like that.

This is my kids first year for tackle football. He is in the 4th grade. We just played Estill County and we got pounded. They looked like they had been practicing for months as we just started pads last week. I played football myself from 3rd grade to 12th grade so I feel like I know what to expect and our kids were not even in the same class. Limiting our practices to a week in helmets and a week without pads really put our kids at a disadvantage. We didn't even know how to hit. If this is how Rowan County football is then no wonder we struggle. Not the coaches fault either.

So who would you like to blame? Signups went on for over two months yet people still waited till the last minute to sign their child up. There are certain safety precautions that are made and that is why they go a week without pads before practicing with pads. This is done at the high school and middle school level as well. KHSAA guidelines prohibit practice in pads before having 5 practices without equipment. So who really is to blame?? Can't have practice if you do not have enough kids signed up to begin. Sounds like to me the coaches need to work with the kids a little better. Or maybe..........just maybe.........the PARENTS should work with their kids at home some as well to assist the coaches in teaching them the game. It's usually the one's that complain that never jump in and help out. Maybe you should try helping instead of complaining.

Well I hate to burst your bubble but I have worked with my kid in the evenings and on the weekends and he improved vastly. Don't judge all parents by the same scale. I am the number 1 supporter of my son. I will do everything in my power to make sure he succeeds. I however can't coach the whole team because I work a job where I'm on call 24-7 and that won't work with my schedule. If you know so much about the KHSAA rules then maybe you should coach. Maybe you already do and that's why your blaming me as a parent which you have no idea when and how I coach my son. Maybe the office in charge of the Youth football needs to do a better job with signups maybe we need more support maybe we need a lot of things. I was just stating our kids did not look near as good as Estill Co and was concerned. If our youth are not coached well enough , supported by parents enough then there will be injury's due to our lack of effort.

Well, my child has played for years. There have been some years our team was better than others. They're kids. Let them enjoy themselves, lighten up. Obviously your child plays on the Bengals. I've not had experience with that group of coaches, but I do know one thing. If you have a problem, posting on topix isn't going to solve anything. If you don't want your child to play, keep him home. If you want to help, volunteer to assist the coaches. Bitching isn't solving anything.
