Wow, they have changed it since I went to college. I used to get my refunds when I registered. Before classes even started. Of course that was also 8 years ago.

If you sign up for a payment plan, you can charge your books at the MSU bookstore. If you are receiving financial aid, sign up for the financial aid pending payment plan.

You just have to call the financial aid office and they will tell you,...... And by the way, they said everything should be applied to your accounts by the 31 of Jan.

That's the point. The new law says that professors have to give proper advanced notice for what books a course is requiring, meaning people have the time to order them from other places, at a fraction, and I mean fraction of the bookstore cost.

But instead of losing business, they make sure the market is just as uneven. You don't get your refund money to buy the books in time to have them shipped, because they won't give you your refund until two weeks after the start of classes. So if you don't have the money to buy them online or from someone else, you get stuck charging them to your financial aid at the book store.

Don't get me started on the payment plan. It used to be the "statement of intent", which was free to sign. These payment plans are a way to charge the students who can't pay their tuition in full at the start. What sense does that make?

I wonder how much of that six-figure salary Pres. Andrews gets got cut.

The reason MSU changed the way they release refund checks is because no one was paying for their books.

They would give out refund checks before school started. The kids would spend the extra money on everything and anything they wanted. A few weeks later when the bookstore charges were applied to their accounts. None of the kids had any money left, they had spend it on "fun" stuff. So MSU changed the rules. Now you don't get the refund checks until ALL of your charges have been applied to your account and all monies have been used to pay for all your charges. Dorms, meals, books, etc. Now you don't have a huge Bookstore bill hanging over your head all semester, and MSU isn't in the red 4million dollars each semester.

If refund checks were already distributed, then why would any student need to charge their books to their financial aid? I understand allowing to be on a credit basis so the books can be purchased when needed and payed for, but it makes no sense to hold the refunds because of irresponsible students who will have their class schedules dropped and cannot return until the debt is payed.

Teachers tell you not to get the books until the first week of classes. I have always charged my books and if by chance they weren't needed I would return them in their 30 days of purchase. They take it off your loans/financial aide. you get your refunds about two weeks after classes start. So I see no reason why anyone wouldn't be able to get their books instead of spending the money. Refunds are released Feb 1st that is still two weeks after classes. You just can't go and pick them up anymore or so they told me when I called and asked when they would release them.

How long ago was this? I have been there almost 4 years and have never received my refund before classes start, always around two weeks afterwards.

It would be nice to have my taxes back in time to get my books somewhere cheaper, that would be great :)

I was there from 2002 to 2006, then back again until 2007.

I never received refund checks, but other people got theirs before classes too, I think.

I've been going here for 3 years and just last Spring I received my refund check on Jan. 4. I was looking forward to it this semester but have to wait, I'm not complaining just saying.
