John Stamper by far the best ever! They honored him a few years ago with the state team. Johns is a sad story he past away a few years ago. He was never the same after his accident. Miss you John!

Thank you for the nice comment. John passed away in 2004, but we all know the he died two deaths. His car accident in 1983 was his first death and he was in a coma for 21 years.

I feel proud to have know him. big number 89 RIP.

John was my uncle, I never really met the real him I was born after his accident. But I was there when they honored him, I actually wore his old jersey. I love to hear stories about him. It makes me feel like I know him a lil better.

Billy Fouch was one of the very best to ever wear the green and white. Most of you all don't know about him. Then there was Marvin Adkins also a first team All-State. Then there is Greg Ramey, Billy Rosenburg who played for Georgia, and a host of many great players that played for RCHS. myft don't know anything about Rowan County Football. I expect that I have seen more FB games in this county than anyone. So can it with your negative myft, ok?

John Stamper was a great player who played on a great team that had several all-staters. Several of that team are now gone as well as lots of those guys in later years also.

BB- The real myft would never say that about Rowan County football. That is a fake myft, someone who would like to become myft when he grows up.

"Goose Egg", of course!! Those were the days. The student body, the parents, and the community was behind the team. I was one of those fans in the stands chanting with the CHEERLEADERS "Goose Egg". Not only did that team have a 10 and 0 season, there were very few teams that scored on that Viking team. And YES, John Stamper and Marlin Muse were great players and leaders on that team. I miss them both. I guess that Big Steve Moore joined them in HEAVEN last year. ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG. Oh! and who can forget Bart?

Community, let's get behind Rowan County Football again and support them again. I still attend the games, and this past season was better then the year before, I am looking forward to ever a better season this year.

I am liking topix more and more...thanks to the poster who issued the fake myft alert.

myft has never seen rowan county high school football players in action, that is why I am exactly the person to say who was the best football player ever to wear the green and white, although in football the white doesnt stay white and then you are faced with that awful question...bleach or bleach alternative.

I think the best player was possibly old number 1,354,943. Never in the history of rowan county was there a player who could wear such a number...he was the whole defensive line, freeing up the other ten guys to play in the defensive backfield or rush the passer...of course with old 1,354,943 the only way you could rush the passer was stand behind him and yell, "hurry up"...I mean this guy was wide...most players can only weare one or two number but we are talking 7 integers here...and then on offense, he was,of course, a wide receiver. That year, and correct me if I am wrong, the team went 7,499,215 and O.

yep, old 1,354,943 was great. He went on to play college ball for a while, but he went to this university that had budget problems and they couldnt afford the separate bus required to transport him.

of course, football is such a strange sport, what with the ball not being round. I dont even want to get into how that happened.

Viking football has certainly had its ups and downs - however with the new coach I see only good things ahead in the future. He doesn't play Rowan County politics because he is not from here and doesn't owe anybody anything. He is good for the kids - teaching respect and discipline. Winning important and the program is certainly headed in that direction - by the way Rowan made the first round of Regionals for the first time in 12 or more years this past season. One Heartbeat is the theme - the community needs to get behind this these kids and their coaches and support them. Come out to the games and make it so loud the other team can't think straight. These kids work hard and for the most part are a very good group of kids. Come out and support them this Fall at the games - it is the best place to be on Friday night in Morehead.

Anyone remember Marcus Lands, he was the best player ever to wear the jersey. Career got cut short by a knee injury.

Anyone hear how his year's team is going to be? Spring practice should start up soon.

Oh and Mossy I agree, Marcus Lands was a good player in his time. A little undersized though.
