[Unsolved cold Case]

Donna Emmel was murdered on June 16 1975 in Newport city, Cartret county , North Carolina she was my best friend she was 16 years old, Donna was last seen leaving a grill/arcade and was walking home across hwy 70 through a short cut to get to Easy street were we lived it was a small wooded area that all the kids cut through she was found in the ditch on the other side of the wooded area across the street from our houses I always felt someone has more information on this case and was afraid to say anything this is a small community were we all new each other, this case has never been solved please if you know anything or have any information please contact the Newport NC Police Department or carteret county sheriff's department I would like for her to rest in peace and i don't think that can happen until this case is solved please help.

I remember that as well, never heard anything more.
My sister and I were also friends with Donna. I would love for this case to be reopened. Let us know anything new.

I remember whan all that happened as well, Donna was older than me, and so was David her brother. I want to say that someone DID come forward and said that a marine did it, and his ex-wife told police and he was charged...not sure if that is true.

Teresa do you have any names on this marine or his ex-wife or wha newspaper it may have been in the case has not been solved it is still a unsolved cold case

No, I'm sorry I do not know the names, but I remember hearing this after her mother past away. I will keep researching.....

Thank you so much for your help i am working on getting her case reopened if it would not be to much trouble and you have any free time maybe you could go by the libray and look in there archives from june 1975 with her name and see if there is any info also we lived on easy street my younger sister's name is karen maybe you know each other well once again thank you for all the info it means alot to me

I remember this very well. I was supposed to be with Donna the night she was killed. I remember that morning my mom getting a call from her mom looking for her before they found her body. I remember I cried and cried. We used to skip school together and switch shoes so we would have mismatched shoes. I think of her often. I went out with her brother Mike a few times and after Donna was killed hung out with her brother David quite a bit. I was not living in Newport when her mother died. But, from what I understand the man that was thought to have done it was cleared, found out that he was incarcerated at the time of the murder. I think there are people that know about this and you are right in a small town people are scared to talk and Newport can be rough.

I can't tell you how it feels to be searching the web and seeing that someone else feels the way I do. Donna and I were best friends when she died. Her death is something I never got over. She was a sister to me. I could never understand why they were unable to solve Donna's case. Havelock was small, Newport was smaller...I agree with you, someone had to know something. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Good to hear from someone who feels like I do to help solve her case,And yes I agree Newport is very small and someone knows what happened,We were a close group of friends she was the best friend I could have and she may be gone but never forgotten.I will keep posting on the Internet any where I can and keep looking for info to find out who did it and why she was to sweet and good for this to have happened to her.I will keep you updated if I come up with more info I have alot but not to be shared here.
