For those who focus mainly on illegal immigration: I'm a would-be legal immigrant from Hungary (Europe), having about $150k and see no legal way to stay. Why? Because an investor has to have 1 million dollars minimum. No chance. As a skilled worker with degree? Tried it but there are few quotas for us. I was several times in the US (as a tourist) but didn't want to overstay and break the law and returned.
Who are allowed to stay? If you don't know exactly. Very few skilled workers, millions of illegals, family migration, visa lottery winners and only the super rich. That's all. The only chance for us is that baby-boomer generation retires now, new skilled workers needed for pay enough taxes and balance expenses.
