The race for City Council in the city of Orinda is certainly not without lawn signs! And a flurry of direct mail pieces. I am however disturbed by the mailings I have received today in the mail. One from "The Committee for Change in Orinda" and the other from Tom Mccormick...both negative campaign pieces. The one from "The committee for Change in Orinda" was a direct hit piece on Laura Abrams, who has served on the City Council for the last 12 years, used photographs that were the same used in Tom Mccormick's mailer. In Mr Mccormick's mailer he proclaimed being "uncomfortable in airing dirty laundry" and then went ahead and did just that by citing all the City Council's misdeeds.
I am not sure for whom I will vote, however one thing that does impact my decision is the use of negative ads, particularly when those ads are not accompanied by as detailed a plan of action as the missteps cited.
This seems to be a heated race. The incumbents can cite their record. The challengers should step forward and lay out a specific plan of action...particularly if they are going to expend so much ink on what they think has gone wrong. Let's hear your specific ideas and what exactly you would have done differently.
