If you are planning on accessing Prince William Sound via Whittier ? Save your time, money, trouble and go to Seward instead. Whittier is a "Tourist Trap" and the residents of Whittier are legalized bandits. Whittier's jerkwater wanna-be cops will make every possible attempt at robbing you of your money. Go to Whittier and be fully prepared to part with a minimum of $ 75.00 per person, per day. Another big problem with accessing Whittier is the state controlled tunnel. Going through the tunnel to Whittier is no problem, but when you get ready to leave Whittier through the tunnel be prepared to get stranded in Whittier overnight. The tunnel doe's not operate by first come - first served, so even if you are in line waiting your turn well in advance of a scheduled tunnel opening - you could end up not exiting Whittier. Do not wait to leave Whittier during the last tunnel opening at 11 pm.
Whittier has only 1 hotel, no motels, no camp grounds, no RV parks, very few public rest rooms, every thing closes at
8 pm. There is no overnight parking allowed within 1/2 mile of the tunnel and there is no overnight parking available in down town Whittier. Save your money - go to Seward, Valdez, or anywhere else except Whittier.

I agree. I used to access Prince William Sound via Whittier but the town has become a money pit. From very high parking fees(you can't park on the roads anymore) to a fee just to drop a kayak in the water...this place is last on my list these days. There is a saying in Ak...it's always Shi@@ier in Whittier.
