Dear Kate Alice,
You asked what is needed to become a Premier School. How about asking yourself that question? One thing that you can do is to eliminate fear in the workplace. Here is reading material on the subject: http://intentionalworkplace.com/2010/03/18/fe...

Our children love this school, however it does seem like academic partners are scared to death of Dunaway. Not a way to run a school. It seems to be like "The Firm" at PLP. Teachers disappear without any mention of what happen because they do not have the PLP attitude. PLP attitude- never speak to or look at head of school without being granted permission. Would love to know why American Renaissance fired her.

What an obnoxious biased statement! My daughter chose to go to Pinelake because she wanted to learn. Something she wasn't getting in public school. The high school she was attending had too many kids that "had" to be there and constantly disrupted the classroom. Probably was your child. She wants to further her education at a large public university. And become an educated, successful, and independent contribution to society. So I have to drop her off at school every morning. What is wrong with that? I call it parenting. Something that you obviously didn't get and now are bitter about it. Get counseling and get over it.

I think this is something that must be finally said...I was a former PLP "Cohort" who was riduculed, mocked, and laughed at behind my back because I did not "fit-it" with PLP administrators' expectations. This coming from PLP's head mistress, to her technology expert hinding in his hole in the outdated computer access room, or whatever PLP calls technology, to her minion running the Upper School who once in fact told me that: "I would be thrown under the bus if I didn't go along with PLP's expectations." These are not academic expectations that are suppose to benefit our children, but in fact her own personal agenda. I actually had students come to me and tell me what these people said about me to PLP students...kind of sick and twisted I would say. My problem was not with the PLP students...I was their strongest advocate...it broke my heart to leave them...but because of the strain the PLP administration placed on me...I lost my job, my home, and my family...in which I will never recover...I will never ever be at peace from what PLP put me through as a teacher...I am really disturbed at someone who drives a battle wagon for transportation, but then preaches that we must all "Go Green" at PLP. I think if I heard another comment about how beautiful Michelle Obama's wardrobe is, I would in fact vomit. I lost a great deal from my with experience at PLP, but it is the PLP students that have lost the most...

There are so many of us parents that would like to see her go. At this time we are fighting Dunaway to get the gym built and thru all of this lots of bad light has been shed on her. There are several teachers that were let go for no apparent reason. It would be great if you could help form a group of teachers that were in the same boat to help us get rid of Dunaway. I believe her beloved board is getting an idea of her dictatorship over PLP. If the teachers that were fired came as one and gave the same story maybe the board would finally realize what is going on. I was recently at a board meeting where she degraded John Malony so badly that I was embarrassed to be watching it. No one should be talked to like that, especially not the person that hired you. She treats Mr Scholl the same way. I feel sure he is out the door as soon as he can get another job. If we could only get some info as to why American Renaissance fired her, we could use that to help us fire her as well. I think it was the PTO that started the movement that finally got rid of her. That is why she will not let us have a PTO. My friend just witnessed her jumping all over a parent in car line on Thursday. It is that kind of situation that will help us to get rid of her. Too bad no one got it on video. I am sorry for all that Dunaway did to you. You must be sane and competent or else you would still be there. If you want to be in contact please reply to this thread.

The board has known it for at least 2 years they just don't do anything about it. They are just as bad as she is. So not worth the hassle. We're out of there.

You say this after what you read? The head of school made fun of a teacher. Is that the kind of person that should be running a school?
She jumped on my son for walking a recycle bin from the lower school to the upper school. He was doing what he was told, but she felt he should not be out of class. Of course, because of her unethical ways no parent will speak out because they don't want their child kicked out. It is a running joke that no one will complain because she will kick your kid out for not tucking in their shirt.

Seriously, do you really think Kate Alice gives a flying flip. She is going to do things her way only. She eliminates anyone that gives her a sideways glance. She is drunk with power and enjoys the fact that there is fear there. She treats parents the same way she treats the teachers, but no one will do anything about it. Plp would be a much better place without her. Even board members would like to get rid of her. If only we knew why she was fired from American Renaissance.

When will they get rid of Dunaway? How bad do things have to get? Only 40% of parents have contributed to the athletic building campaign. Why is this, board members? We as parents have NO FAITH in leadership at this school and are not going to throw good money after bad until things CHANGE! Enough already!!!

To the teacher who got fired, I am sorry you had to go through this. I can't for the life of me figure out why some teachers disappear and why others (awful ones) stay. There's a teacher who routinely makes fun of the boys -- calling them gay and using awful words like that (he seems to have job security). Another teacher who only updates edline 2 days before the marking period is done (oh wait, that's the same teacher)!

With the possible exception of Ms. Sevic, PLP needs to start from scratch and replace the current administration and heads of school.

Good point about teachers. Dunaway hired a teacher that cannon fired because he went off the deep end. He seems really smart but the majority of his class fails and he is never held accountable for it. We are talking A and B students. I guess she really thought she got something because he used to work at cannon. If he was so great, why is he not still working at cannon. He was even asked to teach a summer class on college essays this summer by Dunaway. Scholl has his hands tied on this one and it is very apparent when you go to him to complain about the teacher.
What about the teacher in the lower school that has been moved from upper to middle to lower school because of his inappropriate behavior. Some how he is still on the payroll. He must be a relative of Dunaway, for the life of me I cannot understand why he is still there.
Unfortunately, PLP has such potential and is being held back by a tyrant as a leader. Come on school board, release us of this head of school and bring someone in that can move us forward with a SMILE.

When it is usually kids who count down the days until the end of the school year, in this case my entire family has a daily count down. Totally disappointing experience. CMS, even with the budget cuts is looking like a better option for us. How many US students need to leave in order for someone to actually pay attention to the completely ineffective leadership there? The soon to be graduating class started out 10th grade with numbers in the 60's. Started this school year at 34, and now will hopefully be graduating 28.

This will be our last year...three kids, three different schools (upper, middle & lower). The experience is not worth the frustration!

Parents - contracts have been issued (late) by the administration. Talk to your kids about who stays and who goes. You may be surprised.
Also, consider how an OUTDOOR "amphitheater" will benefit students who still have no gymnasium, multi-pupose room, cafeteria, chorus room, athletic fields, etc.
Check out the PLP website. There is NO MENTION of The Tyrant (K-A) anywhere. Could you even contact her if you wanted to? She hides in the Ivory Tower (that little house in front) and rarely visits the rest of the campus. You'd hide too if popular opinion called for you to be fired from yet another educational setting!

Perfectly said. What will it take to get rid of her? I hate to see who got booted and who is staying. Let me guess, Upper school english teacher that has a 50% or more failure rate is staying along with floating teacher that has been at all the schools only to be put in yet another position despite accusations of racism and inappropriate behavior? Teachers going: those that question why plp does not do things according to the rules or would like additional supplies? Just a thought....

The Amphitheater is the senior class "project." Guess who decided on the project, who got the bulldozer and materials there and who scheduled Saturday and Sunday workdays for the seniors to come and participate? The seniors had other ideas for a senior project, but she already had decided and planned for this. Not sure where the funding is coming from for it- she told the students it was from a grant, but no library, no gym, terrible parking...

Wonder why the board has not announced candidates for the board elections? Maybe Kate Alice did not get the people she wanted as applicants? Who knows. It will be a sad day for her when we get a board with common sense and they send her packing.

to the plp board members:

Get rid of KAD and the other awful administrators and perhaps you would see a huge spike in donations -- ever wonder why 60% of people aren't contributing???? They hate the leadership and direction at PLP, and won't contribute to a future they aren't sold on. Many of us are about to leave if there's no change.
