No - I have kids in the lower school and have never parked up there to pick up kids. Every single day, I do see TONS of uniform-wearing kids eating ice cream and walking around with snacks that they bought at those businesses. Not to mention how many times we send in money for organized field trips to go get treats up there.
Those businesses were pieces of crap on a rural road - PLP is keeping them alive! Guarantee you, they'd be out of business by now had PLP not built there.
The businesses are not better with the school there. I do not know how you can be such a jerk with how you talk..

Truthfully PLP takes advantage of the situation. I know the businesses appreciates having the classes come up there for field trips but it does not mean that parents can take up parking or do whatever they want. The penguin palace I know for a fact has always had a great business,(not crappy) They have always had a ton of customers especially on the weekends and summer. They were established way before PLP was built. They have been there since 2002 and that is when I started going there with my family. I know people from all over who when they come to North Carolina they have to come by for a shaved Ice. So you apparently acting like all these other stuck up parents who dont think their poop don't stink need to get a clue,The two businesses are just like every other business out there and should be treated just the same.
I just do not see how you can be so arrogant?

Bottom line is simple. The two businesses were around long before PLP and will continue with/without PLP. The issue is the disrespect shown by parents who should be doing the right thing by going through the car line like the rule following PLP parent versus those who obviously believe their time is more valuable thus must park elsewhere and have their children leave campus unsupervised. Those very parents will be the first ones to have a fit when their child gets hit by a car or God forbid gets snatched by some stranger while waiting for mom or dad to arrive! PLP is a school of choice and if you are not able/willing to deal with the car line without imposing on others or businesses around, it may be time to choose something else for your family. Just common courtesy and a matter of respect.

I have a large family and have a difficult time juggling home and work! I don't have a great deal of time to spend online, but thought I'd just check in to see what others were thinking. This issue just really rubbed me the wrong way! I do plan on getting to the meeting this evening. See you there!

STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT EVERYTHING! How many parents that are complaining actually attended the annual board meeting last week? My guess is very few of you. I think that you should be ashamed of the things you are saying about PLP. "You are obviously part of the problem and do not plan to be part of the solution!" If you don't like something, stop complaining and offer a solution, do something more useful with your time. PLP is an awesome school, like every other school in America, all of us can find something to complain about if we must. I do not live in "The Point" or "The Peninsula" and I do not see the point of those comments. My children all love it there and we made it in on the lottery. The uniforms might be expensive but they last longer than other brands and the current policy ensures that all students are dressed alike, that is the whole point of a uniform policy. The traffic and parking is tolerable if you have patience and follow the guidelines. The Athletic and Community center will be used as a multi-purpose building and a library is proposed. Let's face it; college students don't even use the library very often these days, much less high school students. Having your children in a charter school requires a commitment on your part, so take them to the public library or buy the book and stop complaining. The learning environment is better than any public or private school that I have ever known of and the administration, the board and the academic partners are committed to the success of each and every child. Our EOG and EOC results are proof of their commitment. Like I said before, sending your children to Pine Lake is a commitment and if you aren't willing to make some sacrifices for your children's education; then get out and let someone in who is.

It is a charter school with a state regulated lottery. Next time you should double check your facts...

Well I would just like to say that I have entered my daughter in the hopeless lottery for 2 years now. No luck I've heard it was because of my zip code 28115! Also, I would love to see the Mooresville School District go to uniforms as well! Just not the expensive ones! I had thought about reregistering my daughter this year since I have two in school now and maybe one of them could get in but I do have to say after reading some of you alls comments I am better off where they are! My kids have a lot of homework they are in K and 2nd grades. I think the quality of education starts at home. But, I do see the potential here to destroy your kids by being pushed to hard. Some kids should not be in AP classes just because they are available! I cut hair for a living in I see a lot of pine lake kids that say they hate the school!! Why complain and leave your kids there. If your not happy try the mooresville city school district, not the county and see if that works!!
Many PLP students live in the 28115 zip code, I just thought you should know that your facts are incorrect. Check out the state guidelines for a charter school lottery.

Hey I think I'll go get an online degree and then maybe people will respect me...d'uh...d'uh...d'uh...POLI TICS!

Could you kindly tell me about how long after the lottery you were contacted regarding the wait list spaces your children were drawn for? Was it in March, over thw summer?
I have registered my child for the local public school as he was waitlisted for PLP K at #22. I have been told that there is a very high likelihood he will start this fall due to his low wait list number and would like some reassurance from those that are familiar with the process. Thank you!
<quoted text>
Can you tell me if your #22 has been called yet. We are #36 and are axious about were the progression of the waitlist is at this point. It would be nice if the school would post that information so families could plan accordingly.

Hi, I'm new here... just want to share my experience with the lottery...
I put all 3 of my kids into 3 different lotteries: 1st grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade... each grade has it's own lottery to fill any available spaces.
We were notified around March that none of the kids got in but that they were on the wait list.
My girls were numbered in the teens and 20s on their wait lists, and my son was numbered in the 60s on the 5th grade wait list.
I heard nothing from PLP all summer, then suddenly last Friday, August 13th, we were notified that both girls got in.
So it ain't over till the fat lady sings, as they say. I will continue to homeschool my son.
Thanks for listening!

actually, the two businesses probably get 90% of their business from PLP staff and students. Who the heck else would frequent either establishment?
Frankly, I don't see how they can "sell" parking spaces. Who would buy a space to park in for 10 minutes a day? How are they going to enforce that? Are they going to have someone standing out there with a notebook to check which cars park in which spots? Seems like a dumb plan.
They should just develop the extra land for parking and be grateful that they have 1500 potential extra customers to make money from. If they were smart, they'd cater more to this crowd and embrace the fact that people are there each day. There are plenty of creative ways they could make money off people by selling products targeted towards this crowd. Selling parking is silly.
If any of you are interested in any of the remaining spots left open,or if there are any go to the buttery & Beanery or to the penguin palace to reserve your spot. I think most of them are taken but they are also going to open up the field for additional parking. that will be pay as you park.

I was #20 on the K waiting list and just got my call last Friday that we got in. I am struggling now to find afterschool options. The school couldn't tell me any options. I live in Cornelius and work in Charlotte. I know the YMCA (Mooresville and LN) offer it; however, they are a little pricey for my budget after you include the transportation charge and having to pay extra for her gymnastics class. The Gym Company picks up; but, then she would be way in Mooresville plus there is an extra charge for the gym lessons. I live in Caldwell Station off Hwy 115 in Cornelius. I am trying to find a way to get my daughter there if possible and an afterschool option or a way to get her from there to Everest Gymnastics. I have phoned and spoken to the owner of Everest. She would consider a van pick up there if there is any more interest (at least 1 more kid). If anyone is interested in Everest afterschool, please phone them and ask for the owner and let her know (Her name is "Kwon"). I just need at least 1 more family to commit and she will pick up there. Everest has a great afterschool and gymnastics program. Anyone interested that can help me with any information would be appreciated!! BTW, Everest gives your child his/her gymnastics lesson included in the tuition for 4 or 5 days a week option. 5 days per week is 300 which includes the gym lesson, snack, structured homework time and gym, computer and craft time. They have all sorts of day options for the afterschool. This was what I had arranged before getting the call from PLP. Since there are limited afterschool options that are out there that pick up from PLP, this is a problem I am sure others are having. I don't want my child to miss this educational opportunity due to limited afterschool options. If anyone knows of another afterschool that is closer to Cornelius that picks up from PLP, I would appreciate that information.
