Robert Jake Garner pleaded guilty in September to five charges in a series of suspicious fires since 2001 in Morgan County, southwest of Indianapolis.

Spell check?

Is that all the time he got for arson? someone could have been killed. Just because he is a sheriff's son dosen't mean he should have a leniant sentance. He should serve more time but i guess that is what you get when someone in your family is a prominent law enforcement offical. I wonder how much time Frank Anderson's kid would have gotten for arson.

I hope his father will stop being such an ass. Not everyone is perfect. How you going to like your son behind bars that you can't control?

They would have dropped the charges and made him part-owner of some politician's bar.

What does it matter if his dad is the sheriff? He's an adult. This is just sensationalism by the Star.

Seems like a very light sentence to me! 6-12 months for multiple torch jobs. Politics can cross county lines. Will also be interesting to see WHERE he serves his sentence. Morgan County jail or some other location.

That kid is a bad seed. He's been involved in soo many crimes that were swept under the rug by Dad.

Can't WAIT to see how his new buddies in the jail that were put there by his Dad will handle his initiation/hazing....

It would seem like a sentence of at least 5 years would have been more appropriate. Then he would have to have served at least 2.5 years before his release.

This reeks of political cronyism, favoritism, or whatever other term you can think of that refers to preferential sentencing.

That makes no sense. It just as if you as saying you cannot wait to see more crime commited. If you cannot wait to see something terrible happen, just hang out on the streets of Indianapolis and you will find your fix

It matters because he grew up in a family of law enforcement officers and he knew the consequences of his behavior if he got caught. But he went ahead and did it anyway, probably counting on the fact that he would get off easy OR to try and embarass his father.

They noted that because they knew people would be outraged that a shefiffs son got a slap on the wrist. It should be noted too. Anyone else would have gotten a much harsher sentence.

Anything at one year or under a year puts you in the county jail.
