Prices for consumer goods will increase. That's a fact.
The minimum wage increase to $9 an hour is not the answer.
Does it not cost more to live in Hawaii than NC?
Of course it does.
Someone in NC making $28K annually would need to make $50K to maintain the same lifestyle.
The minimum wage could be increased to $10,$20, or $50 dollars an hour but that will not necessarily present a livable wage because all additional cost are passed on to the consumer.
As "TSF" there would be an increase in government revenue but I am certain this too would be squandered and accounted for before it is ever collected.
What am I thinking....this "potential" revenue increase was spent before it was proposed.
If a producer is already paying a living wage, no prices must need increase. Those who are screwing his employees might raise prices. Those who are not competitive may fail.

This debate has been argued for a hundred years in America. There are no absolutes here.

The Employment Policies Institute claimed the proposed minimum wage increase could lead to companies shedding 467,000 jobs.
I guess that's not to crushing on an already stagnate economy.
Thanks for telling us what the conservative think tank believes.

<quoted text>What happens when the greedy business owners do not pay their employees enough to live on even though they are working full time? Most businesses do employees enough to make a living, most well above min wage. You, like Allen, act as if everyone earns min wage.

<quoted text>40 hours is what Obama spoke of last night. 32 or more hours may be technically considered full time, but that was not the point of the matter Obama was discussing.
Maybe you just heard Obama saying, spend spend spend?
When the govt determines 30 hrs to be full time, it doesnt matter if the Ruler implies 40 hrs.

Hey Arnold, another example of Mike playing Semantics!

<quoted text>Agreed to an extent, the problem is the ideology of your party. With the way the Ruler is addressing the issue it isn't about bringing up the poor, it's about bringing down the rich and the middle class. It's been tried this way time and time again, it doesn't work. The poor stay poor, the middle class become poor, and the rich become middle class, leaving all of the wealth for the ones in control.....the govt!
Yet in America, since the socialist like policies have been put in place, we have grown to be quite rich.

None of this need bring down the rich. The theory is, the rich will still get richer, as they often always do. The difference is, there will be a stronger middle class and less in poverty.

Before America started these ideas, there was little middle class and massive poverty.

Obama did not imply forty hours, he said forty hours.

You don't run a business do you?

The cost of the employee is a black and white variable included in the overall cost of the product that is being manufactured. ANY change in that is and always will be passed on to the consumer.

That is an absolute.

What do you consider a living wage? A cashier at Walmart doesn't deserve the salary of say, a bar manager?

The little man is the one buying the products being made. It keeps the wheels turning. This is a basic economic truth.
Through food stamps and welfare? Why not cut the middleman, the entitlement taker, and just save what I would if spent paying his or her entitlements by not employing them thus generating more revenue and profits for said company?

That is an absolute.
If you are already paying your employees nine an hour, then no increases needed.
Also, there are other ways to cut costs thus keep prices competitive.

Isn't this the story of when dumbass commissioners gave a total of $4 million to Broyhill when they threatened to move the company? After the money was received they laid workers off most of the workers and basically gutted the business.
