So In South Carolina as in Massachusits, the facts are clear.

Hispanic workers are more plentiful, they work in plants, and construction, as weel as lawn care.

They continue to drive wages down.

There are still Americans trying to make a living doing those jobs hispanics have not stolen yet, but those Americans are working for less due to market forces.

Gee victimless crime really does have victims after all! Who woulda thunk it?

If they are granted amnesty, they will be screaming for higher wages.

Then the companies will just move to Mexico.

Give me a break.

Outsourcing to India and China has done much more damage to wages here in the United States. The undocumented workers are mostly involved with unskilled labor which is a fraction of the overall economy.

Ok, I want to watch you install carpeting with undocumented workers(illegal aliens). But it needs to be done right the first time. Now try telling people that it's unskilled labor.

That's absolutely correct...they will be screaming for higher wages the minute they "muscle" in. I consider it a part of their strategy along with multiplying like jack rabbits when they can ill afford all the children they're mass producing.

Yeah, and what do you want to bet employers won't be able to fire them without getting charged with discriminatory practices? The they sit on their butts, demand to be made bosses while the Americans are hired to work for less. Get them out NOW, it's too easy to see what will happen with amnesty.

I just got out of the military. I spent 9 months in Iraq. I went to go get a landscaping job and was told they had no openings. At the same time i noticed there were a hispanic introducing his friend to the foreman. A couple day later this guy was working alone the highway with the aforementioned company. You can't tell me they are taking jobs Americans don't want. While at Fort Hood, i went to a bank in Round Rock Texas, one of the teller couldn't even speak English. We are all in trouble.

The study proves that illegal invaders that make few rich corporations and contractors even richer by illegal employment and by not paying Federal, State and Social Security and Medicare taxes is bad news for South Carolina in all aspects including the fact that the Americans salaries are dropping because of the illegals.
It is time to vote–out the liberal and conservative politicians that try to make political gain from these illegal invaders votes and the votes of their supporters. These cheap politicians keep supporting the poor and uneducated lawbreakers from the third world countries that live like parasites in our cities and enjoy free food stamps, free education in over-crowded classes, free healthcare in bankrupted hospitals and on top of it the illegal invaders gang members, rapists, drug dealers and other criminals and Islamic terrorists cause increase of up to 50% in the crimes where they stay.
It is time for the left wing liberals led by the Clintons to stop their support of the lawbreakers and criminals that roam in our cities and supported by the American people hard–working class, even if the Clintons desperately need their illegal votes during the 2008 elections.

You know when people keep saying "Hispanics" instead of saying "illegal aliens", you are giving the other side ammo to abuse the term "anti-immigrant" and turn this racial. There are PLENTY of legal Hispanic-AMERICANS here. That's a problem I had with the article.

well try to get over your problem, which is rooted in fantasy, and re read the study.. it makes no difference legal or illegal the wages are still driven down THAT was the point of the study.

If the legal Hispanics are still Spanish speakers, and accompanied in the labor market by hordes of illegal cousins, the result harms the state, all workers, our country, and all who labor with their hands for a living,by effectivly doing away with all labor gains from the last 100 years!

Unskilled is a pejorative many cubicle dwellers have used gleefully. But it means little in todays society.

My own industry is truck driving, we are classified as unskilled.
The difference in conditions for a new driver and one with experience is not measurable at most mega companies, but when you look deeper you see a small group of well paid specialists that have used their "skills" to make a much better living.

The carpenter who does good plumb and square framing is not one who started last year,( we could go to cabinetmaking etc, but those are specialties like hauling explosives or stainless kitchen etc) the plumber who does good work sent time learning how. And to address an earlier post, the floor covering specialist that can set tile, seam carpet and lay hardwood that makes a room shine and does not have loose spots
or squeak or roll up when you move furniture on it, get it done the first time with no call backs takes years to learn his trade!

So much for unskilled!

That is why there are trade schools and apprentice programs, if unskilled labor could accomplish all tasks why would anyone need to hire someone else?? Anybody could just pick up a hammer and nails and start banging away. Myself, no matter what , I know I cannot plumb a house or wire it, I cannot operate a bulldozer or drive a semi. I want to hire someone who will do the job WELL not cheap...I will have to live with the mistakes.
Inexperienced or illiterate (in English) folks on the road, driving 40 ton trucks are not my idea of somebody I want to encounter.
My son is an ironworker, not yet infiltrated out here by "unskilled" labor. he needs to be able to read specs and blueprints to do his job. What happens when those that can't read English must be hired??? Well, I suppose the transition will be complete.
Cubicle jockeys are alway denigrating the working guy. I think it's because for the most part they are jealous of the mystique of the REAL man. So debase the job, make it unimportant enough to be filled by any foreign boob that wanders in,thus making those flat a**ed keyboard pilots feel more manly.
Actually, they are being replaced by NON-immigrant foreign labor and will soon be out there competing for those "unskilled" jobs.

Funny thing that.. I will speak of the indistry I know best Trucking.

The number of colledge educated truck drivers would surprise you. The small group of drivers I count as personal friends contains several registered nurses, 2 members of the bar, 4 with degrees in computer science, and 2 who are retired collage proffesors.

Here in the truck, they are apprentice level drivers because they worked in thier fields untill they finaly said enough and came to do what they had always dreamed of doing.( did I forget the ex airline pilot and the several other pilots excuse me).

Yes those with post high school education learn the trade faster than a non high school graduate. Ex miliytary typs ( like me) do well too although those who were in more than 10 years have some adaptation problems.

But the skills to do this job are not only the same skills needed for other work, there are esoteric skills that apply to transportation, and even a few that pertain to trucking more than anything.

Yes you can go to school for a few weeks and gain the license the givernment decrees necessary.. but you will not know how to succeed at this work, in fact you won't even know enough to start to learn on your own, but will need additional training just in driving the truck without wrecking it.( less than 10 percent of the whole job involves driving the truck).

Are suit and tie guys clueless on what a working man gets out of his life... Probably a little. Just as most carpenters have no idea of the fun of negociating a profitable contract against stiff competition.

Unskilled, ditch digging... my mother always used it as a "punishment" for not wanting to be a rocket scientist.

Now some people seem to think it is ok to have a second class of people living in the shadows digging those ditches.. Elitism is so easy to take into your thinking.. it makes slavery so much lesss horrible when the slaves are only doing unskilled labor..

Like manufacturing furniture, buliding trades, restaurant work, of course those illegal indian programers don't exactly fit the mold so they just don't get mentioned, and the health workers, we won't mention them, and we'll pretend there are no illegals doing work in investment firms or document translating, after all only collage degreed people are involved in that. not slaves.. LOL
