Too much gossip and besides about half of the people commenting had no clue what they were talking about. They need to do something meaningful other than talk trash about a man they so obviously did not know. I for one and glad to see it gone.

They're (rightly) keeping it under a lid, from WHAT I HEAR at the S&S. Supposedly, since Friday. Maybe they won't try this one on channel 5. Do all small town PDs have this much drama?

It's pretty common that small town departments have their share of problems. Pay and benefits are usually lower and small towns are notorious for not doing their homework when they hire. Coupled with the fact that the slow pace of small towns sometimes creates it's own set of problems. Basically you get what you pay for. Some towns hire retired officers from other places which works out well for the town and the officer, they get a trained, experienced officer who can handle people and situations vs. a gypsy that has bounced from town to town trying to outrun their personal and professional problems. Belington probably needs to cut their losses and start over from scratch.

kinda followed this situation for a while. yea you get what you pay for, and your towns are partailly what the people make them. if everyone contributed, instead of "it's not my job" maybe
things would be different. WE have to help change our enviroment,i think we owe it to our kids and ourselves.

Belington was a lucky town to have such a dedicated officer. Why doesnt the post on here have to do with what good things have came the cities way since he was brought on board?

Evidently, the new Mayor finds him insubordinate as did the old one. The new administration rode his coattails to office- tomorrow night's meeting should be interesting.
Yes, he's been a boost to the department, but it seems he can't get along well enough to stay in one place. It's a shame.

It will be in the best interest of the town to get rid of this guy. Yes, he did obtain funding for much needed equipment, but the city planner could have done that. What the city really needed was a dependable police officer and he has proving time and time again that he is incapable of that task. He is never able to stay in one place long, his past always catches up to him, even after trying to change his name from Darell Lott in a obvious attempt to start over. Hopefully Belington will do a background check on the next officer entering our community and we will finally be able to get the right person for the job.

Well maybe it is the city planner or even the mayor that need to have different people in thier positions. Why was the funding and equipment not done before? Dependable? I would say that there has not been a dependable person at that police department in some time. Not many people would take calls from home at all hours of the day and night even when not on duty and demonstrate the dependability that Officer Pierce has shown.

That is your opinion, and you are rightly intitled to it, however I believe that a police officers' past is very important. A officer spends years establishing a certain record of performance and community respect. A officer is unable to do so if they constantly bounce from town to town and changes his name as he goes. As far as taking calls at home that is simple part of the job and is expected when you have a limited police force. The facts remain that Pierce is unable to take orders and work with others in the capacity that a police chief is expected to. The town meeting will be interesting, and I believe that some of you may learn things about Pierce (Lott) that may change your opinion of the man.

I dont understand why people dont take the time to get to know Pierce. It is evident that most people dont on here . Only what they read.Maybe if they did they would know more about him and not have to get their answers from those who "think" they know it all on these comment postings. Like his name, if you knew him or even talked to him once, you would know why he changed it. How can someone say he is not able to stay there in Belington or one place for very long , when he hasnt moved from the town yet.

Officer Pierce was offered the Chief position and has followed the cities policy and procedures. How is it fair to now terminate him based on his past or personal life? He had a past and personal life when the position was offered right? He has moved and advanced his career along the way. Could this just all be he stepped on toes? Not complied and stands up for what is best for the community? or as earlier stated in a post....unable to take orders and work with others???

His past should have been reviewed before he was hired. Someone skipped a step in the interview process. If they are firing him because of his past then he must have lied about something big that they have uncovered.

what could be in his past that he would want to hide? i should think he would know you can't hide anything if you're a police officer. he's been in law enforcement long enough to know that. why do you people constantly insist he's hiding something? if he was reviewed before he was hired, then why are they firing him? if he WASN'T reviewed, then someone else should be fired instead!
OR maybe, just maybe he EXPECTS EVERYONE to obey the law! let's wait and see what happens now and later!!

I seriously doubt that his past has anything to do with his current situation. I had only mentioned his past to illustrate his tendency to wind up in trouble with each department he works at. His suspension would have to be based on his current work ethics. I hope that all of our questions are answered by the town meeting. Whether he stays or not is really no concern to me as long as he is able to perform his duties to the standards set by city council.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Taurus

Friends and partners aren't behaving as you would like today. They're eager to go their own way, much to your annoyance. In order to get round this you're going to have to ask yourself some tricky questions, such as whether you're trying to control everyone's behavior or whether they're being inconsiderate in wanting to do their own thing. It's a Full Moon and a lunar eclipse, so maybe you should all release the tension by making it a super New Year's Eve celebration?
