This is an overreaction. No one's safety was endangered. It was a joke.

I know that these kids didn't mean any harm but unfortunately others might get ideas with other intentions. I don't believe the punishment should be too harsh, only to set an example.

It was criminal and they knew it. In this day and age, that kind of activity can't be tolerated. They need to be punished to the fullest for each criminal action. "What about the future of theses poor harmless children?" you might ask. Well, their future is their responsibility and that of their parents. They made a major mistake. They need to pay the price, learn from it and move on. Others who come behind them need to know this isn't a "harmless" joke. It's a dry run - if not for them, then for others that are watching them.

Wait, "...others might get ideas with other intentions."? Do you honestly believe someone will think, "Yesterday, I was a law-abiding citizen, but now that I've seen some kids pull an alarm clock prank, I think I'll become a terrorist and start planting bombs, yessir!" What a joke.

This was a prank. Nothing more. They would not have gotten in trouble if they had not used duct tape to prevent the clocks from being turned off and batteries removed. A felony would keep these young people from voting, most colleges, most jobs. How stupid have we become? Society, grow up!
